Question of the Day

How did you get your pet?

I’ve had two pets my adult life. Cynikitty and Lola. Cynikitty was from a neighbor whose cat had kittens and she was giving them away. For Lola we went to a shelter. She was being fostered and every Saturday they had an event where the fostered kittens would be put up for adoption. She jumped on my back and started purring and that was the ballgame.

One thing I have noticed about the biggest difference between the two, Cynikitty loved his space and Lola loves to hang around us. I’m not sure if it’s because she may have had a few homes before reaching us or perhaps it’s just a personality thing.

Trump administration considers rollback of anti-discrimination rules

Racist gonna racist:

The Trump administration is considering a far-reaching rollback of civil rights law that would dilute federal rules against discrimination in education, housing and other aspects of American life, people familiar with the discussions said.

A recent internal Justice Department memo directed senior civil rights officials to examine how decades-old “disparate impact” regulations might be changed or removed in their areas of expertise, and what the impact might be, according to people familiar with the matter. Similar action is being considered at the Education Department and is underway at the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Under the concept of disparate impact, actions can amount to discrimination if they have an uneven effect even if that was not the intent, and rolling back this approach has been a longtime goal of conservative legal thinkers. Past Republican administrations have done little to erode the concept’s application, partly out of concerns that the Supreme Court might disagree, or that such changes would be unpopular and viewed as racist.

Pelosi Breaks With Justice: Trump Can be Indicted

The Axios headline above is a bit sensationalist. She doesn’t really come out and say that but it is implied. And of course a sitting President can be indicted. This “guideline” from the DoJ is silly. If a President murders someone on camera, you’re gonna wait for him to finish his term before you arrest them?

In an interview to air on NBC’s “Today,” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie asks Nancy Pelosi, who will become House speaker at around 1:30 pm Thursday: “Do you believe the special counsel should honor and observe the Department of Justice guidance that states a sitting president cannot be indicted?”

The big picture: Pelosi replied, according to an excerpt from NBC: “No, I mean I don’t think — I do not think that that is conclusive. No, I do not.” With that response, she becomes the highest ranking official to suggest President Trump could be indicted while in office.
