On Election Day November 4, 2008, the most highly contested ballot measure in California was Proposition 8. Entitled “Eliminates the Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marryâ€, the purpose of Proposition 8 was to amend the state constitution to remove the constitutional right of gays and lesbians to marry.
Proponents of Prop 8 waged a successful campaign to strip lesbian and gay citizens of their civil rights aided in large part to the nearly $40 million they raised. Many of these donations came from businesses throughout California and across the country.
These businesses have the right to support whatever ballot measures they want, but fair-minded citizens of all sexual orientations also have the right to take their money elsewhere and not patronize businesses that support bigotry. This site is not a witch-hunt but is a tool intended to help people make informed decisions when they shop for products and services. This site hopes to overcome some of the limitations of existing Prop 8 donor databases on the web and in time hopes to become a useful repository of all companies in the U.S. with anti-gay policies.
Why can’t you be more like the United States? You don’t see us Americans invading a country in the Middle East to change their government because we feel threatened. Nor have we ever pushed the native nomadic populace onto designated tracts of land where they’re perfectly free to open up a casino or two.
WASHINGTON, Jan. 7 /Christian Newswire/ — In a first for presidential inaugurations, Congressman Paul Broun (pronounced BROWN) of Georgia joined the Reverends Rob Schenck (pronounced SHANK) of Faith and Action and Patrick J. Mahoney of the Christian Defense Coalition, both based in Washington, DC, in a prayer service inside the US Capitol today that included anointing the doorway President-Elect Barack Obama will pass through on his way to the platform to be sworn in as the 44th president of the United States on January 20.
“Anointing with oil is a rich tradition both in the Bible and in the history of the US Capitol,” said Rev. Schenck. “Oil symbolizes consecration, or setting something apart for God’s use. George Washington used oil during the dedication of the US Capitol. We used oil today to set apart the walkway and doors that will be the literal right of passage for Barack Obama as he ascends to the highest office in our land.”
