    Biggest laugh I’ve had in a while. Next time I partake, I’ll be sure to refer to my sushi chef as Taisho.

    I often find myself saying “Maa maa maa maa maa maa” after having consumed several large bottles of Japanese beer. Who knew I was being so prim and proper?!

    so you’re not supposed to use the sticks at all for sushi? I’ve been doing it all wrong…!

    I write a lot of BS but this is not.

    While living in Osaka I was invited to an upscale sushi bar and was trying to make a good impression. This was a business type situation and was meeting the people for the first time.

    Each piece of sushi was eaten in one big bite and we were served course after course. It was a group thing where I felt like I needed to keep up.

    First came the tame stuff – shrimp, yellow fin, salmon etc.

    Then came pieces I liked less – salmon roe, urchin (maybe), and some unidentifiables.

    At this point I was using my glass of beer, which was being constantly filled to the top, as lubricant to swallow each piece I ate (whole).

    Then came the cuttlefish.

    It was like chewing rubber bands that never break into pieces small enough to swallow. Every chomp released an objectionable slimy, milky fluid that permeated my head. Every time I tried to wash it down with a slug of beer, it went halfway down and ended back up in my mouth.

    I kept smiling and repeating the process until at last, up with the stubborn piece of cuttlefish into my mouth came the taste of bitter vomit.

    It was that bitter vomit that cut the taste of the cuttlefish which allowed me to swallow.

    Move over O. Henry.

    That was my last piece for the evening.

    They have several of these videos on different subjects – this one is the best, though.
