Trying to get violent smut out of Walmart stores:
In Jon Stewart’s book, it is obvious that the intent is comedy. The Bible, on the other hand, is deadly serious and is frequently cited as an authoritative justification for discrimination and hatred. For example, the Bible was cited as an authoritative justification for slavery during the American Civil War. Readers of the Holy Bible act on its discriminatory statements every day. A book that openly demands the murder of millions of innocent Americans, that directly discriminates against women and that fully condones slavery and the beating of slaves is outrageously obscene. By Wal-Mart’s own obscenity standards, as well as by the standards of civilized society, a book such as the Holy Bible has no place on the shelves of any Wal-Mart store.

The Bible
Chris states the following in regards to the Bible:
“A book that openly demands the murder of millions of innocent Americans, that directly discriminates against women and that fully condones slavery and the beating of slaves is outrageously obscene.”
First of all, I dare you to prove this with scripture. I have read through the entire Bible multiple times and find nothing of the sort.
It does not demand the murder of millions of innocent Americans. It does not discriminate against women and it does not condone the beating of slaves.
I would love to know where you got your information from. It certainly wasn’t the Bible.
When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property. (Exodus 21:20-21 NAB)
And some further reading:
Isaiah 3:16-23
Deuteronomy 22:20-21:
Isaiah 19:16:
1 Corinthians 14:34:
And so on, and so on…
Can you please give me some NT scriptures to validate your point? Where does it openly describe the murder of millions of “innocent” Americans? In regards to I Corinthians 14:34, it is not discriminating against women. It is referring to “wives”. It must be read in context. The greek word there is “gyne”.
Also, the OT simply foreshadows and points to the NT. We are currently living under the New Covenant, not the Old Covenant.
By the way, I read (and am familiar with) the other passages of scripture which you mentioned and none of them refer to the murder of “innocent” millions. They do, however, condemn the practice of sexual immorality.
You must remember that God is a God of mercy, but He is also a God of judgement.
Everyone who has accepted Christ will receive His mercy for their sins.
All those that have rejected Christ will receive His judgement (which will be eternal separation from God in Hell, which was originally prepared for the devil and his angels).
I hope this helps clear some things up …
