It has to do with how easy it is to get married, and then later how the same casualness goes into getting divorced. Marriage is more then simply getting a piece of paper. Its in the eyes of God. This however does not mean that it was God’s will for each marriage to happen, but due to the gift of free will, he doesn’t stop it. As another creative, I do agree the message could have been better communicated.
The 70s was the time when No Fault Divorce was the coming threat to marriage. Many churches felt about this the same way they now feel about gay marriage.
Those zombified kids getting “temporary” marriage licenses struck terror into the Fundy heart the same way two men kissing outrages them today.
Its really quite simple…. since Capricorn 24 and Aquarius 14 are going to Carousel this weekend (remember, no one over 30) why get anything more than a temporary marriage.
