I just have to watch about 30 seconds of a clip from that show and I feel like watching all 4 seasons over again. (Yes, FOUR seasons. The 5th one never happened)

Season 5 was a disappointing way to end it, as the journalism slant was clumsily handled and the fake serial killer storyline was not plausible (and they killed Omar, man), but it STILL couldn’t undermine what came before it. Too many fantastic scenes to choose a favorite, but here’s one of my tops:

Because you kept referring to The Wire, I ended up renting a few episodes thinking, eh, another cop show.
It wasn’t just “another cop show”. You are right. Best writing. Looking forward to more red envelopes from Netflix.
@Ninabi,
See, I told you. You never listen to me…. Or maybe you did this time…
Hoooo, what a scene.
While the fifth season certainly wasn’t up to the quality of the four preceding it…it wasn’t THAT bad.
Still, it’s the best show I’ve ever seen.

S4 may have been the best season of any tv show ever while S5 was the weakest. That was quite a letdown and felt forced in a lot of places(probably because it was an abbreviated season). I would rather it never have happened.
Oh oh… I’m about to start watching Season 5… Shame to hear it’s disappointing. I worked in Baltimore Central Booking for a while and met characters like these (well, not like these two). It’s a fascinating and sad world.
They actually filmed an episode in the parking lot of the booking station, and they needed a homeless guy who lived there to move away for the day. They paid him and even bought him some new furniture for his makeshift residence. But in the end he refused, and started hitting the police officers. He ended the night with me in jail.
C’mon, S5 can’t be as bad as BSG S4?
May be the most excellent TV show of all time.
The way I describe it to people is, “every single person in the story is a PERSON, with backstory, complications, motivations — even the 12 year old selling crack on the corner.”
Bitching writing.
Aww, I just finished season 4 and was about to move on to season 5. At least I can lower my expectations a little.
I’m glad they got to actually end the story (as much as possible, I mean). For me, S5 really highlights the fact that there is no institution that is not complicit in the perpetuation of the problem.
But yeah, Milo, you gotta lower your expectations a bit.
Blasphemy!
The 5th season was pure genius. It seemed like it was going to jump the shark with McNaulty tying all those ribbons, but it all made pure sense. At least as much sense as Hamsterdam.
If anything the series had a hump with season 2 – which was quite uninspired.
