It has nothing to do with German. Every sound in the word exists in German. It’s no different from asking an Australian to pronounce it. Just a tongue twister for people not familiar.
Mässetschjusits. Not so difficult.
Now don’t get me started on the brilliant idea of English teachers asking their students to replace a “th” with the letter “s”…

This is a campaign by the University of Karlsruhe to rename itself the “Karlsruhe Institute of Technology”, KIT for short.
Now, I want to see people in Massachusetts try and pronounce “Karlsruhe” :p
