Priorities

If you die after selling between 250 million and 700 million records you’ll be on the front page of every newspaper while the entire world mourns.

If you die after saving between 250 million and 700 million people from starvation, your death notice will be somewhere near the classifieds section.

  1. cos,

But who dies a happy man? That’s what really counts.

  2. enry,

    Yes shame on Elvis!

  3. AmandaNZ,

Is it sad I know who this guy is from watching an episode of West Wing?

  4. bigjohn756,

Norman Borlaug did quite well. He saved billions from starvation, plus, he lived to 95. Not too bad. Not many people accomplish so much.

What is too bad is that nobody knows who he was. I know no one who has even heard of Norman Borlaug. That’s truly sad.

Is there anyone following him? Will his legacy die with him?

  5. lumpi,

    @cos: Good point.

Who wants to be Michael Jackson?

Yet, admittedly, the typical “American Idol” doesn’t seem to be in entertainment, not helping people…

  6. FISH,

I’ve been following Mr. Bourlog for about 5 or so years, he is indeed an American hero. A couple of years ago Penn & Teller’s “Bullshit” did a segment on him.

  7. *Circe*,

    @ AmandaNZ

just what I was thinking. I comfort myself with the thought that it doesn’t really matter where I got the info – hey, at least we know who he was.

  8. His passing was on the front page of The Oregonian, so looks like Boston was slacking there.
