Question of the Day

What phrase do you hate?

I have two candidates.

It was meant to be. No, it wasn’t meant to be. It just be. You can say that anything was meant to be after it happened because that’s what happened!

At least he/she died doing what he/she loved. Personally, I’d like to do what I love without it being overshadowed by my impending demise.

Update:

I’m adding “It is what it is” to the list. Of course it is what it is. If it wasn’t what it was then it wouldn’t be what it is!

  1. Natalie (Nanet),

    “Literally”
“Not a problem..” (after saying thanks on the phone.)
    “how was your weekend?”

  2. --Arren--,

Okay the ones that I hate….

    “Single Mom” and “Single Dad”

As in…take pity on me because I am a single mom, take pity on me because I am a single dad … you may be a single parent, so what??? Would I go around and say “I am a married mom” or “I am married dad”? I don’t think so.So why is it soooo important to individuals that are not married or without a partner do make sure that everyone knows that they are single??

  3. --Arren--,

I need to add another one…

When someone says “Libary” pronounce L-eye-berry

You go to the Library … the the L-eye-berry

    UGH!!!

  4. Natalie (Nanet),

to Arren- they say libary to be cute. except for the one ass hole who really said it that way at a company meeting. that was pure entertainment.

  5. Burk,

And (it’s a pronunciation thing, though) when people replace the ing at the end of a word with een. Like the way Palin would say thinkeen instead of thinking. I even hear newscasters sayeen this. I’m wondereen why they can’t just commit to the G sound… It’s so annoyeen.
And while I’m on the pronunciation thing, I hate that weird glottal stop some folks replace the T sound with in some words like fountain and curtain. So it becomes foun-en and cur-en.

  6. L,

It always strikes me how people are inspired when it’s time to express their anger.
    Me included.

Maybe we can do this with a word or a sentence we love?

    what a hippie I am.

  7. Danno,

    What phrase do I hate?

“is that your monkey or mine?”

“stop hitting your sister, she’s in a wheelchair”

“what would Jesus do – if he had a fire extinguisher, a magic wand and a case of Skittles”

  8. Danno,

ooooh, I also hate this one:

“it’s called a prosthetic, now give it back!”

  9. Bryan T.,

This comment was meant to be!

  10. Jenny,

Git r’ done. I don’t even know what the hell that means.

  11. Stove,

“It was meant to be” is right up there but I really hate “With all due respect…”

  12. Ryan,

    Amen to “Literally.”

Also “I believe everything happens for a reason.” Of course it does– it’s called the cause.

“Individual” to mean “person.” You’ll hear this one constantly on COPS.

  13. Jim,

    How about aigs for eggs,
and “so fun” that was so fun.
No, it was so much fun, or it was a lot
of fun, but it wasn’t so fun.
