Elitist

The chart above is wrong because it assumes that the Republicans are saying that elitism is synonymous with wealth. But that’s not what they’re implying at all. They branded Obama as an elitist not because of how many up arrows he has but how many books he owns. Remember, we elect presidents not for leadership quality or intellectual ability but for who we want to hang out and have a beer with.

  1. I don’t drink but if were to partake I can’t see McCain being all that fun in a bar.

  2. BurritoQueen,

Uhhh… Those aren’t up arrows. Those are supposed to be houses. I know, I thought the same thing…

  3. Debbe,

I think Obama would be far cooler to hang with… plus I’d LOVE to peruse his library!!!

It IS sad that, if you have any reasonable amount of intelligence AND you let people find that out, you are branded an elitist. All part of the dumbing-down of America, I guess, and one of the ways of convincing people to LIKE being stupider…

  4. deepsea33,

Honestly, I wouldn’t really want to hang out with either of these guys, beer or not. McCain’d probably get trashed and start telling war stories–literally!

  5. And I don’t even like beer.

  6. deepsea33,

@Debbe – it’s so much easier to be stupid and complacent. Laziness almost always wins–people in this country don’t even vote in every election.

  7. Rune101,

When I Had Government/Economics In High school I Remember In One Of Our Text Books About Presidential Elections It Said That The Bad Quality’s For A President Can Be He Can Seem To Smart…..

  8. la Cour,

As long as there’s beer I don’t care who’s talking.

  9. hedgehog,

Where can I get that as a poster (or at least as a linkable image)?

  10. Dave,

I think Obama earned his moniker when he was overheard commenting about the people in Pennsylvania while chatting with his supporters in San Francisco:

“…they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”

The poster implies that wealth is the the sole definition of elitism. Actually wealth has little to do with elitism if you look at the dictionary. It has more to do with being aloof & a snob.

From answers.com: “One who despises people or things regarded as inferior, especially because of social or intellectual pretension.”

  11. Goaltender,

That poster is wrong. Obama owns a jet and McCain owns a bike. All credibility is lost and this poster has zero effect on anyone with two brain cells to rub together. Yeah, I know that’s poisoning the well, but it’s also true. Next.
