Sound Waves With Fire

The classic physics experiment involving sound, a tube of propane and fire. Created for Flash Forward 2006, but useful in any case where you are not allowed to have fire. I push through the tube 449 Hz then higher frequencies, then some jazz and then some rock. This is real life sound visualization.

  1. I was kind hoping he would play: Talking Heads “Burning Down the House”….

  2. ntac,

Cool. My two favorite topics, acoustics and fire!

It’s like the dancing candle flames in the bar I used to play at. The flames on the table candles would flicker in time with the drummer.

  3. Brandon C,

Shouldn’t he be playing the Beatles?

  4. Justin,

How about an early John Frusciante solo album??? Too soon?

Also, this would be great at parties.

  5. Kristen,

Wow. There’s my cat, and directly above? My 11th grade science fair project. I made one of these with a friends. It worked very nicely. (Pink Floyd’s “Money” worked best.) We won second place in the science fair, and then were disqualified and nearly suspended for bringing in a “pipe bomb.”

  6. klaatu,

LOL @ Brandon C’s comment…he does look like the cartoon version of John Lennon in Yellow Submarine…haha
