Fla. vandals tag 60 cars with anti-Obama messages

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Vandals have spray-painted 60 city vehicles in Orlando, Fla., some with messages against Sen. Barack Obama.
The cars were parked across from city hall late Saturday night. Investigators say the culprits tagged notes such as “Obama smokes crack” and a racial epithet. They even left business cards on each vehicle.

While a number of speakers — such as Railroad Commission chairman Michael Williams and Mike Huckabee — have praised the advance of Barack Obama and what it means towards a colorblind society, at least one vendor hasn’t gotten the message.
At the Republican state convention, a booth hosted by Republicanmarket was selling a pin Saturday that says: If Obama is President will we still call it the White House.

Marietta tavern owner Mike Norman says the T-shirts he’s peddling, featuring cartoon chimp Curious George peeling a banana, with “Obama in ‘08″ scrolled underneath, are “cute.” But to a coalition of critics, the shirts are an insulting exploitation of racial stereotypes from generations past.
“It’s time to put an end to this,” said Rich Pellegrino, a Mableton resident and director of the Cobb-Cherokee Immigrant Alliance. It was among the organizations planning to gather outside Mulligan’s Bar and Grill Tuesday afternoon to protest the “racist and highly offensive” shirts.

(For the record, if that happens….I will never vote again. Ever. If the people of this country prove themselves to be that blitheringly stupid, then I refuse to be an active participant in its political process).
I’m totally flabbergasted by the last one on your list. How absolutely over the top is that.
As for McCain winning — although i absolutely believe that black box voting is and will be used to sway elections, I think also that the election has to be close for that to be a factor. As long as this isn’t close, we’re free from that concern.
Beyond black box voting, I just don’t think McCain will win, he really really sucks.
But, the gay marriage “issue” won the last election (read: got it close enough to steal with electronic voting), so who knows — those same folks will more than likely vote against a black president.
We’ll just have to see.

Just a guess, but might these racists just be those same old so-called Christians? They seem to hate anybody who isn’t exactly like them, or can think for themselves.
I’m not sure the last one deserves to be there: whether you like, loathe, or simply don’t give a damn about Yazmany Arboleda (the artist in question), there is no reason whatsoever (that I know of) to suppose that he is racist.
Although Arboleda’s recent paired exhibitions (The Assassination of Hillary Clinton/The Assassination of Barack Obama) were arguably facile, unoriginal, and of significantly less substantive artistic value that he thinks, it is hard to dispute that the intent was satirical. Listing this as an example of racism is… well, it’s like taking an Onion article at face value.
Meanwhile, the europeans are doing a collective *facepalm* at this kind of behaviour. Is this how civilised people behave?
McGee, McCain is not going to win. But this is going to be a vile election. We all get all excited about making history, whether it was going to be Hillary or Barack, but in the inherent excitement, let’s not forget that the other side is shitting bricks which means they’re going to be more unhinged than usual. Which mean, this will be quite possibly one of the most vile elections you will ever see.
Still, McCain doesn’t stand a chance.

That type of “art” is not interesting to me, in the least, but at least it wasn’t just some disply for future voters.

I may be going out on a limb here, but I must say that Obama sock doll is kinda cute.
I’m not saying the racial undertones of this doll aren’t actually racist – in all probability they are.
I’m just thinking maybe it’s not as harmful as it may at first appear.
If anything, this campaign has been a way for Americans to try to break away from race issues which have been dogging them their whole lives.
And being scared/outraged at a cute monkey doll
is not really the way to go IMHO.
There IS a market for this toy. And that market is probably racist redneck republicans. But in a strange way it might also be a way for them to deal with their next president being black.
I can imagine at least one little blonde girl out there who’s going to make this her favorite doll, if her parents buy it.
In a strange way this might actually help that little girl to not grow up being scared/hating black people.
Sure, some parents will freak out when their kids end up liking the doll. But these kids’ll know in their hearts that their parents are over-reacting, and that the big black boogeyman they’ve been taught to hate might actually be kinda cute.

As you would have seen if you had proceeded to the second page of the article, Obama has cheerfully been photographed with people ‘in Muslim garb’ both prior to and after the incidents cited; this is strong support for the Obama campaign’s denial that this was a policy decision rather than the initiative of two individuals.
