Neon Nights

Kid Moves Out Over Bacon

I have no clue what the context is here…. But the kid is in the right.

Today’s Lunch Craving

(Image from Midtown Lunch)

Someone (Cornjob?) emailed me a suggestion for lunch last week but it’s just sinking in now. A gyro sandwich. There was a Greek restaurant near my office that served amazing gyro sandwiches. The tradeoff was that there was enough garlic in the tzatziki sauce that you’d be shunned for the rest of the day. Although that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. But alas, the Greek place folded and was replaced by a Falafel place. And I really hate chick peas.

Question of the Day

What are your favorite iPhone Apps?

Mrs. C’s iPhone will be coming in today and mine will be in around Wed so we need some cool apps.

Remember the Story of the Teacher Who Burned a Cross on His Student’s Arm?

From NBC4i:

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio—A Central Ohio school board has approved a $121,000 settlement with the family of a student who said his teacher burned the image of a cross on his arm.

School board members in Mount Vernon agreed Wednesday night to resolve a federal lawsuit by paying $5,500 to the boy and his family and $115,500 to their lawyers.

Well, I’m very glad to see that the student is…. wait, what was that last sentence again?

Glenn Beck Attempts to Spell a Word

Watch it though for the payoff.

On a side note, despite linking to several YouTube clips, I’ve never watched Glenn Beck on his Fox show. (the seizures, the seizures) That’s some studio setup he has. Flipcharts, blackboards, “redrum” scribbled several hundred times on the wall behind the flipchart… It’s like they gave a tv show to the homeless guy in Harvard Square who keeps asking tourists if they’ve seen his shoes.

What Are You Reading

I’m wallowing in my annual late-August apathy where I don’t seem to be interested in anything. Which means I don’t feel like posting anything. I don’t even feel like reading anything. I just finished Clan of the Cave Bear (Which apparently, I’m the last person to read it. I didn’t even know it was made into a movie until yesterday) and now I have a bookshelf full of books to read and not one of them is calling out to me.

I spent most of July with my nose buried in a volume of Raymond Chandler novels. I think I read just about every Philip Marlowe novel out there including his short story collection, The Simple Art of Murder. After I had my fill of fedoras and main characters being sapped, I read a few Neil Gaiman novels. American Gods was first and was much better than I expected it to be. I then read his Neverwhere which I couldn’t finish. I think the problem was that American Gods was a much better book and it was difficult to read a story where the characters were barely developed and the plot was…. I don’t even remember what the plot was actually. So I went from Gaiman to Neaderthals and now I’m at a loss where to go next.

I’m thinking about reading The Lensman series which has been collecting dust on my bookshelf for a few years now. Not sure I’m in the mood for space opera. Anybody reading anything good?
