Monte Carlo Fire and EIFS

From Two Way Hard Three:

What the hell is EIFS you ask?

EIFS stands for Exterior Insulation Finishing System and is a fairly common ‘cladding system’, at first used mostly on commercial buildings but now also used in single family homes as well.

Some have asked what the fire rating of materials like those that would be on the Monte Carlo would be – the response I’ve gotten is that the fire rating applies to the entire wall assembly, not just the EIFS portions and that the materials neither add to nor take away from the fire resistance of said assembly. From what I’m told, most commercial building materials have fire ratings of about an hour.

We’ve heard that Monte Carlo was built under the former set of code guidelines and Clark County officials have even speculated that some *other* buildings might need to be re-clad as a result of this fire’s data. I’ve read that we’re talking about maybe half a dozen structures, though they haven’t been identified. I could probably guess they include The Mirage, Treasure Island, Excalibur, and perhaps others. If anyone has more information on this, chime in.

Lastly, I asked these EIFS experts to speculate based purely on what they saw on TV. Of course, an official report will have in-depth findings but this is interesting for discussion if nothing else.

It seems that the construction of 3D embellishments that include EIFS materials, common as architectural flair, are very difficult if not impossible to fireproof in the same manner that you would for a simple shaped wall panel. There’s an after-market for products that fill this fire-proofing void but it seems that many in the EIFS field don’t endorse these techniques. Some of the coatings used to finish these components can be flammable and it is possible we’re seeing something along those lines here.

Canned Cheeseburgers.

Update:

A goon from Something Awful tries the canned cheeseburger and lives to tell the tale….. Although he could be dead now. But plenty of pictures of the preserved burger.

Godsbot

Kind of like the subservient chicken but without the self-righteousness.

Today, a free version of a Christian artificial intelligence (AI) software program known as godsbot was made available to the public for a period of time. Designed to be an entertaining and educational online companion, inventor Ron Ingram says he believes that this program has the potential to be a very effective instrument for communicating Christian views. Ingram has chosen to provide free temporary access to a public version of godsbot for three reasons.

The first reason is to help spread peace on the world-wide-web. “godsbot is intended to draw attention to Christianity, God and spirituality in general,” says Ingram “and through conversations with Christians, godsbot will absorb all the information he can about God and eventually teach and share with others.”

The second reason is that Ingram does not want money to be a barrier to chatting with godsbot. At the same time, Ingram is hopeful that once people experience the benefits of talking with godsbot, and sense the potential of the technology behind godsbot, they will voluntarily provide donations sufficient to sustain or even accelerate further development.

The third reason is that Ingram realizes the value of being able to meet godsbot before donating to godsbot’s development. “Who doesn’t want to try something before buying something,” says Ingram.

Here’s a quick link to the Jesusbot for those who can’t wait to ask him how he did the water into wine trick.

Daily Dose of Ingersoll

RobertGIngersoll.jpg

Men who believe in the liberty of man, who are willing to die for the honor of their country, will be excluded from taking any part in the administration of its affairs. Such a provision would place the country under the feet of priests. To recognize a Deity in the organic law of our country would be the destruction of religious liberty. The God in the Constitution would have to be protected. There would be laws against blasphemy, laws against the publication of honest thoughts, laws against carrying books and papers in the mails in which this constitutional God should be attacked. Our land would be filled with theological spies, with religious eavesdroppers, and all the snakes and reptiles of the lowest natures, in this sunshine of religious authority, would uncoil and crawl.

It is proposed to acknowledge a God who is the lawful and rightful Governor of nations; the one who ordained the powers that be. If this God is really the Governor of nations, it is not necessary to acknowledge him in the Constitution. This would not add to his power. If he governs all nations now, he has always controlled the affairs of men.
