This, soooooo much:
Former President Obama said political candidates lose support when using “snappy” slogans like “defund the police,” in an interview scheduled to be released Wednesday.
Obama told Peter Hamby, who hosts a Snapchat political show “Good Luck America,” that those who use the slogan could jeopardize their goals of enacting meaningful reforms for police.
“You lost a big audience the minute you say it, which makes it a lot less likely that you’re actually going to get the changes you want done,” the former president said in the interview scheduled to go live at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, according to Axios.
It’s such a bad slogan in so many different ways. Besides the obvious of it scaring off anybody near the center of the spectrum, everybody had a different explanation of what it even meant. It ranged from complete abolishment of the police, to redirection of some of their budget to social services. I’m really happy that Biden just basically deflected it and stayed away. Yes, policing in this country is out of control with inflated budgets and virtually no accountability, and the way to change this is to WIN public offices, not lose them by scaring off a good portion of voters so you can have a twitter slogan.
