Gov. Ducey orders Arizona bars, gyms and theaters closed again; large gatherings restricted

Good job morons. This was so easily predictable. The numbers on Monday are usually lagging a bit so I’ll be curious to see the numbers from FL and TX today.

On April 29, as his statewide stay-at-home order approached its expiration date, Gov. Doug Ducey touted the state’s “hard-fought gains” during the pandemic and promised a careful, gradual reopening.

“It would be irresponsible for me to make decisions to reopen with a chance that I would have to come back because we didn’t have the proper guidance or data and ask people to do this again,” the Republican leader said.

On Monday, he found himself asking just that — at least for bars, gyms, theaters, water parks and inner-tubing. Facing mounting pressure to respond to the ballooning COVID-19 numbers that followed his revised, accelerated reopening plan, he issued an executive order giving those entities until 8 p.m. to shut down.

Trump Called Merkel “Stupid” and “In the Pocket of the Russians” on the Phone

I swear, Trump projects more than an IMAX cinema:

German officials were so alarmed by President Donald Trump’s “very aggressive” conversations with Chancellor Angela Merkel that they kept their calls secret, sources told CNN.

In calls with the German chancellor, Trump bullied and disparaged Merkel in a “near-sadistic” fashion, according to the CNN report by Carl Bernstein, the longtime journalist known for his reporting on the Watergate scandal for The Washington Post.

“Some of the things he said to Angela Merkel are just unbelievable: He called her ‘stupid,’ and accused her of being in the pocket of the Russians,” unnamed sources told CNN, adding: “He’s toughest [in the phone calls] with those he looks at as weaklings and weakest with the ones he ought to be tough with.”

A group of officials assigned to monitor Merkel’s calls with Trump also shrank, leaving “just a small circle of people who are involved and the reason, the main reason, is that they are indeed problematic,” a German official told CNN.

Sacha Baron Cohen Pulls Epic Prank on Far-Right Militia Event

It may be his greatest prank since Borat sang “Throw the Jew Down the Well” in an Arizona country and western bar more than 15 years ago.

On Saturday, comedian Sacha Baron Cohen apparently infiltrated the “March for Our Rights 3” rally in downtown Olympia, Washington, getting at least some of the right-wing militia attendees to sing racist lyrics along with him about Barack Obama, Dr. Fauci, and the “Wuhan flu.”

According to event organizers, Baron Cohen first disguised himself as the leader of a PAC that wanted to sponsor the rally and then hired his own security to block them from getting him off the stage or cutting off the power once he had started performing.

“He came on stage disguised as the lead singer of the last band, singing a bunch of racist, hateful, disgusting shit,” Yelm City Councilman James Blair wrote on Facebook after the event. “His security blocked event organizers from getting him off the stage, or pulling power from the generator.”

The event was hosted by the Washington Three Percenters, a far-right militia group that has previously organized gun rights rallies. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, “The reference to 3 percent stems from the dubious historical claim that only 3 percent of American colonists fought against the British during the War of Independence.”

At Least 18 Members Of One Family Have The Coronavirus After A Surprise Birthday Party

fI would have more empathy or this kind of thing if it were back in March and I hadn’t just spent the last 4 months abiding by social distancing guidelines and NOT seeing my own family because with a pandemic raging through the world, NOT coming into close contact with your family is actually the most caring thing you can do.

Ron Barbosa’s family has always been close. Members of the Dallas-area family see each other practically every day, and when the coronavirus pandemic struck, many of them thought it would be OK to continue spending time together.

But after family members went golfing and threw a surprise birthday dinner party for one of Barbosa’s family members last month, at least 18 members of the extended family have become sick with COVID-19.

Three have become so ill that they have been hospitalized: Barbosa’s 88-year-old dad, his 86-year-old mom, and his sister, who is going through chemotherapy for breast cancer.

“Everybody says, ‘Oh, it’s my family. I’m going to go see my brother. I’m going to see my cousin,’ and they think that’s a safe word,” Barbosa told BuzzFeed News.

While they aren’t certain if the virus started spreading among the family at the May 30 party, Barbosa, 53, who did not attend the gathering, said that based on the time they started to see symptoms, it seems like the initial transmission among family members happened that weekend.
