Marco Rubio was really upset about the shooting at the Capital Gazette newspaper yesterday. Well, not so much about the shooting (Go NRA!) but that one of the reporters used the word ‘fuck’ on CNN last night when she said, “I couldn’t give a fuck about [your prayers] if there’s nothing else.”
Sign of our times… the F word is now routinely used in news stories, tweets etc It’s not even F*** anymore. Who made that decision???
I know. It was just wild when I started seeing the media use the word pussy without bleeping it or anything. God, how did that even happen? Somebody must have said it in such a blunt, unavoidable way that the media had to report it in full, but who?
And there you have it. President Shithole is going to be able to put up another conservative Justice which will probably mean that abortion will be outlawed within the next two years and god knows what other horrors. We’re so fucked right now.
Justice Anthony M. Kennedy announced Wednesday that he is retiring from the Supreme Court, a move that gives President Trump the chance to replace the court’s pivotal justice and dramatically shift the institution to the right, setting up a bitter partisan showdown on Kennedy’s successor.
“It has been the greatest honor and privilege to serve our nation in the federal judiciary for 43 years, 30 of those years on the Supreme Court,” Kennedy, who is stepping down July 31, said in a statement.
Kennedy informed the president of his decision in a letter.
Savio found himself at the center of the Free Speech Movement, which had begun protesting the university’s ban on political activity on campus that fall. It is remarkable in this day to consider that a university could institute such a ban (especially in light of the ongoing protests at UC-Berkeley this weekend against tuition hikes, or, more locally, the walkout planned at WSU today). In a way, the widespread political activity on college campuses shows just how successful the Free Speech Movement was in fighting such bans.
But back to the speech: It represents a sort of turning point for what used to be called the counterculture (the very culture that would go on to give birth to such alternative newsweeklies as Metro Times, for instance). It’s a short but bold and defiant oration that says free human beings aren’t going to be pushed around by anybody, from lawmakers and police to liberals and labor leaders. Standing in front of a crowd of 4,000 people, Savio described his meeting with university officials, who compared the president of the university to the president of a corporation. In a clever way, Savio followed this line of comparison to its logical conclusion: Universities were factories turning the “raw materials” — that is to say, the students — into finished products to be bought by corporations, government, or organized labor. It’s a fine little speech, made especially memorable by Savio’s passion, the way he seems to be pulling together his speech on the fly, and especially by the closing paragraph, from with the address takes its name as the “bodies upon the gears” speech.
A 19 year old French woman visiting her mother in British Columbia went for a job and accidentally crossed the border into Washington. Apparently there are no signs where she was running and she didn’t even realize she was in the US. Seems like if Border Patrol happened to come across her they would realize pretty quickly that it was an innocent mistake, and let her go right? No, these assclowns detain her for TWO WEEKS!
(CNN)A woman jogging along a beach accidentally crossed the US border from Canada, and ended up detained in Washington state.
Cedella Roman, 19, was visiting her mother from France when she went jogging last month just south of White Rock, British Columbia. She mistakenly continued jogging into Blaine, Washington, she told CNN partner CBC.
As Roman stopped to take a picture of the view, she turned around and saw two US Border Patrol officers approaching her.
“He stopped me and started telling me I had crossed the border illegally. I told him I really hadn’t done it on purpose, and didn’t understand what was happening to me,” she told the CBC.
Roman, a French citizen, was not carrying any documents at the time.
“They put me in the caged vehicles and brought me into their facility,” she said. “They asked me to remove all my personal belongings with my jewelry, they searched me everywhere.
Then I understood it was getting very serious, and I started to cry a bit,” Roman added.
US Border Patrol arrested Roman on May 21 and transferred her to an immigration detention center in Tacoma, Washington, according to Carissa Cutrell, public affairs officer with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
She’s not white either so she really had no chance. Congratulations America, we’re the baddies now.
