Catching up on the News After a Busy Day

I’ve been busy most of the day. What did I miss?

Oh, the GOP is destroying the internet now too:

The Republican-led Federal Communications Commission voted Thursday to approve a controversial plan to repeal Obama-era net neutrality protections. The repeal passed 3-2, along a party-line vote.

The vote came amid mounting protests from the tech industry, consumer advocacy groups and even some Republican members of Congress who’d urged the FCC to delay or cancel the vote.

In what may be a sign emotions running high on the issue, the net neutrality vote was briefly interrupted due to a security threat. FCC commissioners and the audience were forced to evacuate the room.

Paul Ryan may be resigning in 2018?

And a racist white woman gets kicked out of Starbucks for telling two Korean women not to speak “Oriental”:

An unidentified woman was kicked out of a Starbucks in Walnut Creek, California, earlier this week after she angrily told two students who were sitting near her to stop speaking “Oriental.”

Local news station KRON 4 reports that Korean exchange student Annie An was doing school work with her tutor, Sean Lee, in the Walnut Creek Starbucks when a woman sitting nearby told them to stop talking.

While they didn’t understand what she wanted at first, they quickly realized that she was upset that they were speaking Korean to one another.

At one point in the dispute, Starbucks staff members came over to ask the woman what her problem was.

“They’re speaking in Oriental,” she replied. “I hate it.”

When told by the Starbucks employee that the students were allowed to speak to one another in Korean, she replied that former President Barack Obama had once said that people who live in the United States should learn to speak English.

  1. Republicans: “The federal government needs to be limited. We don’t need more laws and regulations.”
Also Republicans: “Speak English! The president said so!”

  2. I would have loved to see what happened when the cops got to Starbuck’s to remove that racist lady. I’m guessing she left on her own, or there would be footage of that as well.

  3. Does anyone want more corporate power?
Amazon vs Google shows the way it’ll go.
Newcomers will be kept out, cementing giants in place.
Wonder how much Comcast paid GOP for this policy

  4. I wish Obama would have declared Net Neutrality illegal instead. Since it would have been Obama’s idea, Trump would have reversed that instead.
