The U.S. Department of Education Misspells W.E.B. Du Bois, Apologizes, Misspells Apology

Their DeVos is showing:

Look, spelling is sometimes hard and we all blow it from time to time. But god damn, Department of Education, get your shit together. The other countries can SEE YOU.

The department, which was assumed last week by the vastly unqualified Betsy DeVos, made a tweet on Sunday morning that misspelled the name of the civil rights activist, writer, sociologist and historian W.E.B. Du Bois. Yes, mistakes happen, but when your administration is already under fire for openly reviling people of color, perhaps you want to really double check the hell out of the vowel-laden names of the prominent historical figures you’re quoting.

Then the department tried to apologize. I say “tried,” because then…they effed up the apology tweet. It’s since been deleted, but not before it was documented by the Washington Post

‘You Have Provided Zero Evidence’: Stephanopoulos Clashes With Stephen Miller on Voter Fraud

Has the Trump Administration said anything that has been true yet? In three weeks they have produced more bullshit than most Administrations are capable of with two terms.

George Stephanopoulos got particularly heated with White House senior policy advisor Stephen Miller over recent claims by President Trump of voter fraud.

The president claimed last week that he would have won New Hampshire if “thousands” of people hadn’t been bussed in to illegally vote.

Miller argued to Stephanopoulos that “anyone who’s worked in New Hampshire politics” is aware of this, but Stephanopoulos asked him to provide evidence.

He ended up getting testy with Miller as he kept arguing his point, telling him, “Just for the record, you have provided absolutely no evidence.”

Kmart and Sears drop Trump Home line of products from websites

From Raw Story:

Kmart and Sears have joined the parade of retailers and celebrities cutting their ties with the Trump family brand in recent weeks.

Business Insider reported that the two companies are no longer offering items from the Trump Home collection on their websites.

“As part of the company’s initiative to optimize its online product assortment, we constantly refine that assortment to focus on our most profitable items,” a Sears Holdings spokesperson said to Business Insider. “Amid that streamlining effort, 31 Trump Home items were among the items removed online this week. Products from the line are still offered online via third-party Marketplace vendors.”

Proposed bill deems children born through artificial insemination illegitimate children

Because science makes baby Jesus cry?

A proposed bill in the Tennessee General Assembly seeks to classify children born through artificial insemination as illegitimate children.

Representative Terry Lynn Weaver (R-Lancaster) proposed HB 1406, which is intended to repeal the current statute regarding children born through artificial insemination.

TCA 68-3-306 provides for the child to be considered the legitimate child of a husband and wife if the child is born through artificial insemination and with the consent of the husband.

“A child born to a married woman as a result of artificial insemination, with consent of the married woman’s husband, is deemed to be the legitimate child of the husband and wife.” (TCA 68-3-306)

However, the bill proposed by Weaver, with the Senate equivalent (SB 1153) proposed by Senator Joey Hensley (R-Hohenwald), would repeal that statute and label the child as illegitimate despite the couple being married and both consenting.
