Muslim Cleric Declares that Selfies are a Sin

And would you guess that he specifically blames women for this?

A young Indonesian young cleric is taking a stand against selfies. In a 17- point manifesto posted on Twitter last week, popular Indonesian author and speaker Felix Siauw argued that taking a selfie often means succumbing to pride, arrogance, and ostentation—all of which make them a sin under Islam, according to Siauw.

He specifically criticizes Muslim women, writing, “These days many Muslim women are taking selfies without shame. There are usually nine frames in one photo with facial poses that are just–my goodness–where’s the purity in women?” according to a translation by Coconuts Jakarta.

Responsible Gun Owners of the Day

3-year-old shoots parents in NE Albuquerque motel:

A toddler shot both of his parents on Saturday after reaching into his mother’s purse for her iPod, but found a loaded handgun instead, according to Albuquerque police.

Both people are expected to survive.

The 3-year-old boy fired one shot, which struck his father in the right buttock. The bullet went out of his hip and then hit the woman, who is eight months pregnant, in the arm, said Albuquerque Police Department officer Simon Drobik, a spokesman.

The family, which also includes a 2-year-old girl, was living in the room at America’s Best Value Inn near Menaul and University where the shooting occurred, Drobik said. The man and woman each confirmed the story, but the two children won’t be interviewed until a later date because of their age. A 9mm handgun was found inside the motel room.

The shooting took place around 2 p.m. in a second floor room of the motel at 2018 Menaul NE.

Iran to Hold Cartoon Contest on Holocaust Denial in Response to Charlie Hebdo

I don’t understand the relationship between satirizing a deity and satirizing genocide but whatever.

An Iranian cultural institution has launched an international cartoon contest centered on the theme of Holocaust denial in response to French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo’s decision to publish caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed.

Iran’s House of Cartoon and the Sarcheshmeh Cultural Complex will hold the Second International Holocaust Cartoons Contest, the Tehran Times reported.

According to the report, cartoonists have until April 1st to submit their works.

The winner of the contest will receive a $12,000 cash prize and their cartoon will be shown at the Palestine Museum of Contemporary Art in Tehran. Second and third place finalists will receive $8,000 and $5,000, respectively.

Question of the Day

I couldn’t care less about today’s superbowl. I gave up watching sports years ago and don’t miss it. I don’t even think I can name more than two players on the Boston Patriotic’s team. (Tom Brady and Greck? Dunno. Don’t care. Doesn’t affect me at all.) But, I am on board when it comes to party foods.

I currently have a pork butt cooking in the slow cooker on a bed of onions, garlic, chicken stock and some sriracha thrown on top for good measure.

I’ll shred it later, reduce the braising liquid to a rich sauce and live off of shredded pork sandwiches, tacos, quesadillas, etc for the rest of the week. Maybe some guacamole tonight with a margarita to catch up on Downton Abbey. A perfect superbowl sunday for me.

What are you doing or making?
