I wish we had this in the US- I could see it in Las Vegas as a specialty restaurant at one of the casinos.

Yeah, that would be great. Yet another way to funnel money up to the one percent, just like ATMS, self check out, and acting as your own travel agent. Hooray for Vonnegut’s Player Piano!

Then Godzilla comes to town, pops a squat on the restaurant and squishes all those inside. That giant lizard won’t give anyone a break, even at dinner time.

These are surprisingly common. The sushi place a couple minutes down from my house is like this one, and we’re on the outskirts of a medium sized town.

Pretty neat, but it looks like more of a novelty than anything else. I imagine the prices must be through the roof; there’s no way all that automation outweighs the cost of actual wait staff, even factoring in expenses like liability insurance.
At the one near my place, it’s 100 yen ($1) a plate, each plate having 2 pieces on it, or 1 expensive piece. The tea is free, so you end up getting out around $10 a person. You could go higher if you wanted beer, but on the whole I’d say it’s in the same price range as similar places.
