SILVERDALE — A 27-year-old man shot himself in the hand while reportedly cleaning a pistol Saturday.
The man told medics responding to his 911 call that he was cleaning a .45-caliber handgun, a Glock 21, when it fired, sending a bullet through his hand. The bullet also put a hole in the screen of a flat-screen TV in the apartment, located on the 12000 block of Cloudy Peak Lane NW in Silverdale.
The man was in a friend’s apartment, but was by himself at the time. He called 911 at 3:13 p.m., said Scott Wilson, Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

I agree. We need to pass a test to drive on public roads, so why not a test to own/handle a gun? Since the bullet can easily leave your property if fired anyone owning or touching a gun should have taken a training class and passed a test. And yes, I own a handgun, so I would be willing to subject myself to these requirements.

This tragedy could have been avoided if only the wounded hand had been armed– the shooting hand would have thought twice before attacking.
An unarmed hand is just asking to become a victim.
