I remember when I was very young, the uneven bars was my favorite to watch. Even I am slightly too young to remember Nadia Comaneci or Olga Korbut in the Olympics, but was reading the other day on Buzzfeed of Olga Korbut’s “move” that is now illegal (and awesome!). It is now (as far as I understand it) illegal move to put your feet on the bar, but many of the earlier gymnasts in the video did moves with their feet touching the bar. It looks like earlier more of a demonstration of moves and feats whereas now it has changed into more of a routine, and you can’t just do a series of stuff but have to be dazzling. Seems like that had to have changed in the 70s with Korbut and Comaneci’s perfect 10.
I had to quit gymnastics by the age of 7 because I hurt myself too much. I love that they make it look easy but I had a black eye, a bloody nose, I just couldn’t do even elementary moves and stop being a klutz. I took it for 2 summer sessions (really not much at all) and eventually grew too tall anyway. I took ballet instead and didn’t get hurt, was never very good at it though. As much as I like the other exercise of gymnastics, uneven parallel bars was something that intrigued me. I loved to watch this video, so thanks for posting it!
“The manuever on the uneven bars is when a gymnast, from a stand on the high bar, performs a back flip on the lower bar and then regrasps the high bar.”

Now if we could just get those flipping cats to learn to do that, the end result would be awesome.

This makes me want a lady superhero movie SO bad. I bet Wonder Woman would have these sort of moves.
