  1. MacCrocodile,

I’m gonna say the same thing I say when my family says or does stupid things. Gee, aren’t they funny. Such an excellent sense of humor, that bunch.

    • Angry Sam,

Right. There’s no way any of those posts could be ironic.

Ummmm…. guys? (Should we tell them? Or let them figure it out once they get to Saskatoon?) ;) )

They should move to China to escape communism instead.

  5. McGee,

I find the people whining about “Marxism” even funnier. I wasn’t aware that everyone being forced to buy insurance from a myriad of competitive companies was antithetical to capitalism.

  7. Hrimgrimnir,

As a Canadian, let me share my thoughts:

    NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So we now will have a problem with immigrants with poor English skills flooding across our porous southern border… Time to build a fence!

  8. Angry Sam,

Perhaps at least some of these are jokes. They allow those on Twitter, right?

    • Jocelyn,

You’re probably correct on that observation, and we’ve been poe’d. However, I imagine a few of those are deadly serious.

  9. Mike K,

And they’ll also find their emigration will be just as effective for escaping all those troublesome taxes they have to pay here in the U.S.

  10. Barbwire,

Maybe they’re just disappointed that with the Affordable Care Act as law the kind of single payer universal plan that Canada has won’t have a chance of passage here… (Irony symbol) The stupidity of the far right is darned near boundless. The least educated vote to support the wealthiest 1%, and also support cuts to their own care and education in general. My only hope is that reasonable old-fashioned Republicans leave the party in droves.

  11. gruggach,

For those trying to move to Canada because they don’t like Obamacare, Canadian Customs will helpfully place you on a plane to Uzbekistan.

  13. Danno,

As an LA native I’m so tired of all this “winning the Stanley Cup mania.” I’m moving to Canada where I won’t have to worry about that. – Wait, did I just talk sports smack on Cynical under the only circumstance that would remotely make it relevant? That just might be a bases loaded touchdown.

  14. jason,

I rode my bicycle home last night, being the treehugger exercise enthusiast that I am, and my ride takes me through Georgetown MA. It’s a somewhat small, slightly upper crust, primarily (if not completely) white sleepy bedroom community. As I rode through the town proper I notice a large Obama sign draped on a desk by the side of the road. It had a Hitler moustache on it and the words “IMPEACH” emblazoned on the top. This struck me as odd as you don’t see these types of crazy stuff in towns like this. I lived in Boston for more than five years and if I saw something like this there I would have taken it in stride. You get used to the weird rhythms of city life. But this is not the city. As I got closer I noticed a man manning this slice of crazy train and what I found really weird as he was black himself. I wasn’t going to stop and try to reason with him for all the things he has so grossly gotten wrong since he has to be straight up nuts. Now to be clear I’m no Obama fan either, I think he has been essentially the same as his predecessor, but I don’t want to impeach him. I am highly disappointed in him for not being the FDR candidate he ran as and people voted for. I can only assume the man I saw is upset over his improvements to health care. I think his health care plan is a step in the right direction. It’s not perfect but it will help. It’s the only thing really I think he did right (although I’m sure it didn’t hurt that the health care industry wants it as they will be getting millions of new customers. Taking a hair cut per person becomes palatable if you know that you’ll make oodles more in the end)

  15. And just to spell it out for the peanut gallery, Canada: Gay marriage, gun control, socialized health care, and Fox News is not allowed to broadcast there due to laws against deceptive or false statements being made on news broadcasts.

I’d say let ‘em go, but I have friends up there I’d not wish to see exposed to such high doses of burning stupid.

    • Hirimgrimnir,

Sadly we do get exposed to fox news. Most cable carriers broadcast well into the country, especially with the majority of the population living on the southern part of the country. Where I live (Calgary) we received numerous channels from Spokane.

    • Ashley,

As a Canadian I feel the need to clarify!
Gay Marriage – I am all for it, but I kid you not that on the form we filled out for a marriage license it asks if you are marrying Man Women or Other. As Canadians we can not infringe on the rights of a citizen to marry his/her dog!!
Gun Registry-2.3 billion dollar waste, we do have gun control measures that have had positive benefits but our government is always looking for new ways to waste our money.
Socialized Healthcare-Has created unsocial nurses and doctors who frequently miss the obvious and people die waiting for care. My doctor refused to discuss more than one issue per appointment as he gets paid $285/per appointment. If I want to mortgage my house and sell everything I own to save my son who has congential hearts disease I am not allowed. I am expected to wait for the system to process us, and he may not live to see the cardiologist. The Canadian government frequently refuses to license out of country doctors and tightly controls the amount of ph.d learning positions. If they can keep the number of doctors low, they believe the health care costs will decrease. I am all for a universal healthcare, but one that is not self governing. I would imagine in the US because you have to pay to see the doctor people don’t rush in to see one when they have a cold. Here our emergency rooms are pack with people who have the flu, because we don’t pay (thats a joke, you should see my tax bill) everyone takes advantage of it.
Don’t get me wrong I am very proud to be Canadian but if it were not for the bitumen pouring out of our soil we would be holding hands with the US and crying about our unemployment rate.
Canada is great place to live, not because we have a great government, or because we are just so friggin nice. It is a great place to live because there is alot of money, and if you are not living well here it is because you are lazy. Also I have NEVER used the phrase EH, nor does anyone I know, but Y’ALL keep on believing that and I will keep believing that most Americans can read.

  18. TDavis,

The “I’m moving to Canada” thing has been going on for years. Left and Right are guilty of making promises they never intend on keeping:
