Fascinating thread, but how could you get so far along without either gaining decisive advantage or losing? Sounds like he played to lose just to see where the game would take him. Awesome that he did and awesome that the game allowed this.
I once played a game of MOO2 just to see how much crap I could fit on to a battleship hull with maximum minitureization by advancing past the top of the tech tree in each tech. All of my planets were Gaia. There were only 4 enemy planets. I voted against my win in the Galactic Council. I had tiny EMG Pulsons with MIRV. Tiny fully modded disruptors.
I was playing Civ 5 just yesterday morning. I vaguely remember Civ 2, but am glad they got rid of that whole radiation/pollution concept. It was tedious. (Just saying.)
I’ve played (and still have) Civ 2, 3 and 4. Heard too many bad reviews to bother with Civ 5. As much as I like Civ 4, I do miss the humor (and videos) from earlier versions. I cannot, however, imagine playing a single game of any version for 10 damn years.
