  1. Brian,

I will never defend the “prequels” (as they were just vehicles to sell more toys) but the original Star Wars trilogy story was brilliant. Much better than anything Trek put out. I loved the look of Star Wars – Ralph McQuarrie is a genius.
Sorry Bill, but your campy escapades of nailing alien women only works in the 60′s.

  2. Chris,

Star Trek was a product of the Science Fiction of ideas era of the 50s and 60s. Star Wars was a homage to the SciFi before that era, the adventurism SciFi of the 20s-30s, Buck and Flash. Both were successful at what they were trying to accomplish. But in the realm of intelligent thought provoking SciFi about the human condition, Twilight Zone possibly beats Trek.

Twilight Zone > Star Trek > Golden Girls > Any reality show featuring John Stamos> Star Wars.

TZ had some great SF; I especially liked the hour-long “Death Ship” w/ Jack Klugman. Also great is “I Shot an Arrow into the Air”. Star Wars isn’t really SF, it is more like PSFFTYB (pretend SF for 10 year old boys)

  4. Mike K,

Granted, that was heavily edited, but I hope Shatner was being sarcastic on most of those comments (although knowing him, probably not). I’d say both shows are about equal on the storyline vs. special effects question, but Firefly takes the prize for the characters and their relationships being bigger than that week’s outside conflict.
