Question of the Day

There’s a fire and you have only enough time to grab two items from your house (pets and people are already to safety). What would you take?

  1. MacCrocodile,

The sprinkler system and a phone. Clearly the sprinklers are crap, but maybe I can sell the copper pipes for something. I have time to rip pipes out of the walls and ceilings, right?

  2. Two of my mother’s paintings.

(Can I cheat and say “two boxes with my mother’s paintings” so that I can save more than two?)

    • MacCrocodile,

If you can do that, I’m changing my answer to:

      1. The interior of my house and
      2. Its contents.

I have a box of photos and a box of important papers in my room that I keep close by in case of such an event.

    • MacCrocodile,

I’m telling your kids you think of them as items and not people. Actually, no. I’ll let CPS tell them that.

    • Mike K,

Since “pets and people are already to safety” I’d probably save my two baby goats too.

  15. Whatever,

    My MacBook and my camera.
And while I was in there I’d make sure that my wife’s shoes get burned to ashes. She owns loads of shoes that takes a LOT of room and she doesn’t use most of them.

Can I pretend the fireman are already in there? Cuz I’ll take them! Seriously though, my puter and I agree with the aforementioned clean grunderwears.

  18. Tomorrow’s question should be if you had to choose one state to blow up with a nuclear bomb or the rest of the country would be destroyed, which state would it be? :-)

    (ripped off from Zach Galifinakis)

Ok, my pocket notebook/wallet combo and my iPhone.

  19. jen,

my phone & purse, or at least my ID. I wouldn’t want to have to stand in line at the DMV to get a new one.

  20. Cornjob,

Like a few others, my external hard drive… and… hmmm… pets are already safe. Mrs. Cornjob is already safe… what else? What else? All important documents are already inside the fire-proof safe. So… my collection of Doctor Who action figures? Sweet FSM… I’m a total geek.

  23. TDavis,

My Mac and my dossier that has my passport, car titles, etc. Then, braving the flames, I’d at least TRY to save my complete collection of E.C. comics.

  24. TDavis,

After rereading my response, to Hell with the Mac, I want my comics!

  25. Sam,

Mac and the file of important documents (passport/copies of all of credit cards/etc). I suppose I need to make sure that my birth certificate is included, as I have the only copy of it in existence.

Thinking of this…I need a fireproof safe.

  26. Rampage_Rick,

My main PC and my file server. About 10 TB between them, and no way to cram that on an external drive. I have copies of all my documentation on my computer anyways.

I also value my tools, but there’s no way I’d get them out in time.

  27. Frankly,

The oil paintings my grandmother did and the sampler from my wifes grandfather:
The world is so full of many things
that we should all be as happy as kings

I’m not but I he was despite a life 10x harder than mine.

  28. Piri,

My husband says “TV and Computer” (I don’t think he could get the TV out)
Assuming I have my purse on me, the stuffed Moogle my 17 year old cat “gave” me for my birthday and the portrait my ex neighbor did of my two kitties as a thank you for watching her dogs.

  29. Just one thing: my Drobo. All our photos and videos are stored on that.

I don’t have any important paper documents that can’t be replaced. Every document I care about it stored in dropbox, so it’s just the stuff on the Drobo that would need rescuing.

One day I should buy another Drobo and put it at my parents house and have rsync keep a copy there so I wouldn’t need to rescue anything from our house.

  31. danno,

My Les Paul and Mesa Boogie head. A close third would be my Sig Sauer 9 mm, but I think that’s in the car – so I’m good.
