TSA security looks at people who complain about … TSA security

From CNN:

Washington (CNN) — Don’t like the way airport screeners are doing their job? You might not want to complain too much while standing in line.

Arrogant complaining about airport security is one indicator Transportation Security Administration officers consider when looking for possible criminals and terrorists, CNN has learned exclusively. And, when combined with other behavioral indicators, it could result in a traveler facing additional scrutiny.

CNN has obtained a list of roughly 70 “behavioral indicators” that TSA behavior detection officers use to identify potentially “high risk” passengers at the nation’s airports.

Many of the indicators, as characterized in open government reports, are behaviors and appearances that may be indicative of stress, fear or deception. None of them, as the TSA has long said, refer to or suggest race, religion or ethnicity.

But one addresses passengers’ attitudes towards security, and how they express those attitudes.

It reads: “Very arrogant and expresses contempt against airport passenger procedures.”

  1. There really needs to be a massive boycott of airline travel. It’s not “the holidays” anymore. Well, really before the summer vacation season and everyone gets out of college, now is the time. I know some people still have to fly for business, but maybe people should be thinking of a more local vacation trip if they plan something. Because this is ridiculous. Ostensibly, it seems anyone “complaining” about the “security measures” might be because they have something to hide, but not really. It’s not for safety, it’s to shut people up who have a legitimate complaint about the feel-ups and nude-scanners. Because they’re “just doing their job,” and the more unpleasant they make it for people who complain, they’re coercing a compliant behavior. It needs to stop.

  2. Actually, I thought it was well established that innocent people are those most likely to object vociferously and angrily against an unjust, untrue accusation. Since the entire TSA procedure is one long unjust, untrue accusation, I wonder if this has anything to do with an organized program to impose submissiveness and isolate those who demand their rights be honoured and upheld?

Wait, sorry – am I not allowed to say that?

  3. It’s true. You can always tell the real bombers because they’re always the ones making a big hysterical drama in the line at Airport Security, always with their camera phones recording the pat-downs… And of course, hot blonds.

  4. As part of my job I perform penetration tests of physical security. Its an American trait to not get involved in a confrontation – if you wanted to get an American to skip a closer look you should complain loudly. The other trick that works exceptionally well is to make it look like you need help. I don’t know much about the TSA profiles but these make sense.

That said what they do at airports is a complete waste of time. Having gone through the screening a few dozen times I can see several ways to defeat they system depending on what I wanted to do with the plane.

  5. This summer we have to make to make two 3200 mile round trips. We thought about it awhile and decided to drive. We’re not boycotting air travel, but we have reached our personal tipping point and decided against it.

  6. Theyre gonna have to target someone. It seems to be based on your behavior, again, stop whining. There is a set of guidelines for everything this day. Yes, I want the edgy looking guy and the vociferous asshole to be scrutinized.

  7. It sounds more like high school than 1984 even…almost like wanting revenge on those who give them a hard time…I can see the movie already…Carrie 4: TSA lol

But in all seriousness, Have the terrorists that have struck already kept a low profile, or did they raise a stink about stuff like this? I remember when 9/11 happened and the next few months were all the news outlets telling us that terrorist sleeper cells have been among us for years, and we don’t realize it because they kept a low profile for all that time. To me, this is all just a strategy to try to get people to stop complaining about TSA, which I doubt it’ll work, but who knows. You can do a lot when you have a police force backing you.

  8. The TSA is a joke. How many have snuck thru with actual intend to do harm, and yet these Nazi wannabe’s at the airline want to harass you for having to put up with their stupidity and wasting your time and huffing and puffing under your breath at their inefficient and ineffectual bullshit? I absolutely agree with the earlier post that we should boycott the airlines. They harass you getting to the gate, make you wait for, sometimes hours to take off, and then you want to de-plane, and charge you for every breath you take in between…..wtf. And let’s not forget that you could be on a plane that isn’t checked HERE…and HERE…and THERE…and THERE because it’s not stated as to do so in the guidelines, so the top rips off the plane at 35 thousand feet…..and…..the policies are to work air-traffic controllers so long and hard they actually are falling asleep before some genius says…’this isn’t right’..(enter dumbass LaHood). How much has to take place, and just how bad does it have to get before people finally say enough is enough?! I just don’t f’n get it.
