1. I remember when Police Squad came out. I was just a kid, but I thought those (maybe six?) episodes were the funniest things I’d ever seen. Along with Jaws, Star Wars and Aliens, Airplane is one of the most quoted movies ever.

  2. Playing the pedophile pilot in the Airplane movies was one of the bravest/most-foolhardy career moves…but it worked out great for Leslie.

Unlike today, pedophilia was no laughing matter in the 70s, phnar, phnar.

    1. Nielsen wasn’t the pedophile pilot; that was Peter Graves. Nielsen was the doctor on board the aircraft. Both were hilarious!

Nielsen found his true niche in comedy; “Forbidden Planet” had him really stiff and over-serious. All of his comedic efforts – Airplane, Police Squad TV show and movies, and even the somewhat lame Dead & Lovin’ It – were truly funny. R.I.P, good sir!

  3. “That’s the red-light district. I wonder why Savage is hanging around down there.”
    “Sex, Frank?”
“Uh, no, not right now, Ed.”

  4. “We got to get this man to a hospital.”
    “What is it doctor?”
“It’s a large building with lots of beds, but that isn’t important right now.”

  5. “Your’e needed in the cockpit”
    “What is it?
“It’s a little room at the front of the plane where the pilots sit, but that’s not important now.”
