Colo. man went on solo mission to kill bin Laden

From Yahoo News:

DENVER – An American construction worker has been detained in the mountains of Pakistan after authorities there found him carrying a sword, pistol and night-vision goggles on a solo mission to hunt down and kill Osama bin Laden.

Catching bin Laden was Gary Brooks Faulkner’s “passion,” his brother said, noting that the 50-year-old has been to Pakistan at least six times, learned some of the local language and even grew a long beard to blend in. Relatives and acquaintances said Faulkner is a devout, good-humored Christian who requires dialysis and did time in prison years ago.

“A lot of kids grow up and say, `I want to be Rambo,’ you know? Well, he is,” said Faulkner’s brother, Scott Faulkner, 43.

GOP Nominee Proposes Landmines For Mexico Border

From CBSNews:

The Republican nominee for a northern New Mexico congressional seat suggested during a radio interview that the United States could place land mines along the Mexican border to secure the international boundary.

Asked Monday to clarify, Tom Mullins emphasized that he does not advocate doing so.

“I am not suggesting we do that,” he told The Associated Press.

Mullins said border security came up during a radio interview last month, when he was campaigning for the GOP nod to run against Rep. Ben Ray Lujan, D-N.M.

Mullins subsequently won the primary on June 1.

During the May 18 interview with KNMX radio in Las Vegas, N.M., Mullins said the U.S. could mine the border, install barbed wire and post signs directing would-be border jumpers to cross legally at designated checkpoints.

“We could put land mines along the border. I know it sounds crazy. We could put up signs in 23 different languages if necessary,” Mullins says in the radio interview, where he also expressed concern that terrorists could carry a nuclear weapon across the Mexican border.

Democrats demand flotilla “terrorists” be denied entry into U.S.

From Salon:

In case you thought a reasonable debate was still possible surrounding Israel’s botched raid of a humanitarian flotilla, the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York held a press event in Times Square today to prove you wrong. A half-dozen elected Democrats called on the State Department to ban every flotilla participant from entering the United States.

Well, only some of them called for everyone to be denied visas. Most of them just called for an “investigation” into the terrible terror ties of the activists aboard the flotilla, sponsored by a Turkish NGO called IHH that is not on any American watch list.

But to the assembled politicians and most of the small crowd, it is already settled — based on decade-old investigations and foreign intelligence reports — that IHH has ties to al-Qaida and Hamas. (Well, it does have “ties” to Hamas — anyone looking to build anything in Gaza is forced by the Israeli siege to deal with Hamas.)
