Religious Leaflet Claims ‘Ungodly’ Dressed Women Provoke Rape

I’m feeling a bit out of it today so can some commenters double their outrage for me?

BRISTOL, Va. – Nineteen-year-old Keshia Canter handed three burgers, fries and milkshakes to a car-load of Tuesday afternoon customers at the Hi-Lo Burger’s drive-though window. A lady sitting in the backseat leaned forward, between the two men in front, and handed her a leaflet: “Women & Girls” it said across the top.

“Even though nothing is showing, you’re being ungodly,” Canter recalled the woman telling her. “You make men want to be sinful.”

Canter was wearing boots pulled up over jeans, a pink zebra-print shirt with a black jacket zipped up over it. She has blond hair, dark eye make-up and a little red lip ring. “I just asked if she needed any salt, pepper or ketchup,” Canter said. “I mean, how do I respond to that?”

Minutes later, Canter’s mother, Pam Yates, who owns the restaurant, returned from the bank. Canter handed her “Women & Girls” and Yates started reading.

“You may have been given this leaflet because of the way you are dressed,” it begins. “Have you thought about standing before the true and living God to be judged?”

It continues with one essential theme: The sins of men are, in part, the fault of women, specifically women in tight-fitting clothing. Yates was annoyed. Then she got to a section on page two:

“Scripture tells us that when a man looks on a woman to lust for her he has already committed adultery in his heart. If you are dressed in a way that tempts a men to do this secret (or not so secret) sin, you are a participant in the sin,” the leaflet states. “By the way, some rape victims would not have been raped if they had dressed properly. So can we really say they were innocent victims?”

  1. So if women are raped because of the way they are dressed, how do these people explain why babies, children, old ladies and sometimes men can also be a victim of this crime?

  2. Isn’t there a part in the bible that says a person should cut off the part of themself that sins? It’s the rapists fault for not poking out his eyes or ripping his own weiner off in the first place!

  3. It’s their fault for being born with boobies as well. Boobies can be very distracting for a male and can affect our day jobs.

    1. oh wait, you wanted double outrage… uh..
GOD DAMN… uh sorry let me try again…

meh, sorry man, that was the best i could do offhand.

  4. The woman circled back to hand the girl’s mother a pamphlet called, “Kitchens and Bare Feet” about how women should not run their own business. Then she handed herself a pamphlet called “Backseats and Prudence” to remind herself that she’s not allowed to speak while in the car.

  5. I just accept those people into the other groups of unfortunates. Such as the mentally challenged or diseased. Like the lady that hands pamphlet about how the government (Canadian) abducted her son or a friendly downes kid that wants to talk to you about Olympics he watched last night even though it finished on sunday. (both happened to me in the past week) There’s no point at getting mad at those they are just a part of life. For me, it sits between a minor amusement and minor annoyance.

It’s just really too bad they have the ability to vote and draw Hitler ‘staches on Obama.

    1. Actually, that’s pretty mean to the unfortunate homeless or the well meaning kid – they both deserve our respect and empathy.

“Well meaning” Christians like this deserve neither respect, empathy or even the could shoulder. There still needs to be gatekeepers in the world to re-educate against these fools.

  6. I think a bunch of women & girls should show up at the Hi-Lo Burger, dressed like the ZZ Top gals from the 80s videos, and confront these religious whackadoodles. My dog, rape has NOTHING to do with clothing! Maybe the terrorists HAVE taken over and we’re secretly being converted to Islam? Next thing, they’ll want us in burqas… sheesh.

  7. This isn’t a Muslim thing. It’s a fundamentalist thing. Whatever faith they follow, they only differ in the details.

That said, I think we’ve found the piece of assholery that tops leaving a tract that looks like a $20 bill as a “tip.”

  8. What really makes it disgusting is that it’s a woman handing it out – she should be smacked and made to wear spandex. Funny that this came up – I was thinking today about how sick and tired I am of people treating women as the “source” of sin and constantly judge us. Think about it – there is no word for a male “whore”… What happened to worshiping a woman for BEING a woman? Why can’t we be adored instead of constantly insulted? Hell, when my dad found my prescription for my diaphragm (I was 20) he called me a whore. NICE. Love you TOO Dad. What did he call my brother for getting his girlfriend pregnant when he was 18 and helped pay for her abortion? RESPONSIBLE. WTF?!?!? THAT’S the shit that gets me CRAZY!! I’m still trying to figure out where you use a penis to run a lawnmower since my dad seems to think women should not use them (lawnmowers, that is). Still looking in the bible for that one…

  9. It seems that men have the same problem as dogs when they see an attractive female of the species. The difference is, we neuter dogs. I suppose we could ask the female dogs to be more discreet (more fur, less flashy collar, and stop wagging that tail!) but it’s just easier to cut the dogs balls off.

So I ask those crazy fundamentalist Christian people: Do we need to neuter you so you don’t rape every comely woman walking down the street? Or can you exhibit a little more restraint than a dog?
