BYU banned facial hair when those dang hippies started growing beards. All the General Authorities of the church shaved their beards around that same time. Prior to that time, they considered beards a mark of wisdom, rather than rebellion.

My dislike of shaving was one big reason I chose not to attend BYU as a teenager. The other being the rule against girls wearing shorts.

In the British Navy a ship’s captain could give “permission to abstain from use of the razor.” My skipper adopted that rule for his ship; worked fine.

One other thing I’m curious about, do Mormon girls who want to shave or wax their junk have to get permission too? Is there any teaching of the Church on this topic?

I have some ancestors from the mid-1800′s who were Mormons. We’ve got pictures of them, and holy moly, you ought to see the Old-Testament-prophet beards they had. They could stroll on stage with ZZ Top and no one would bat an eye.
