I think the only thing this proves is the utter lack of intelligence on Joy’s part: “It’s not nice, it’s not very Christian, to spank a child!”
She has absolutely no knowledge of Christianity, and only a cursory understanding of what Mr. Hitchens is attempting to quite eloquently say. This is the sort of tepid insipidity that confuses “love” with “nice”, when in fact love does indeed “hurt” sometimes.
Actually, the Noah’s Ark thing can be explained. Back then the term “World” meant everything around you that you know of, so it didn’t include the rest of the Earth. Some versions of the Bible do say the “Earth”, but that’s contextual. Going by this definition, only the region was flooded, and only the animals in the region were taken on board.
Apparently, God hadn’t put people on the rest of the Earth yet, so he only had to flood that one area to wipe out all other humans.
Still doesn’t explain how Satan (disguised as a serpent, not a snake) got past Eden’s Border Patrol though.
