Priest Who Broke Celibacy Vow Joins Episcopal Church

From CNN:

Father Alberto Cutie, an internationally known Catholic priest who admitted having a romantic affair and breaking his vow of celibacy, is joining the Episcopal Church to be with the woman he loves, he said Thursday.

“I will always love the Catholic Church and all its members,” he said at a news conference. “But I want to start today by going into a new family.

“Here before this community where I have chosen to serve and where I live, I am going to continue to proclaim the word of God and my love for God,” Cutie said.

Cutie (pronounced koo-tee-AY) was received into the Episcopal Church earlier Thursday at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Miami, Florida. He will pursue the priesthood in the Episcopalian faith, the Episcopal Diocese of Southeast Florida said in a written statement.

This is the interesting part:

Of his relationship with the woman, he said, “Through the photos, it looked like a frivolous thing on the beach, you know, and that’s not what it is. It’s something deeper than that.”

After the photographs surfaced, Cutie was removed from his duties at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church in Miami Beach and on the Radio Paz and Radio Peace Networks.

So you can molest all the altar boys that you want and the worst they’ll do is just transfer you. But if you dare get caught kissing an icky woman….

Question of the Day

Are you reading anything good currently?

I post what I’m reading on the right sidebar using the Amazon widget for two reasons. The first is because Amazon pays me whenever somebody buys something from Amazon after clicking on one of the books listed. And the second reason is because Amazon pays me whenever somebody buys something from Amazon after clicking on one of the books listed.

But I do at least keep the list current. Or try to. I actually finished The Road last week and just haven’t had a chance to remove it. It was a good quick read and I can see it as a gateway for those who haven’t read much apocalyptic fiction. (If you want to try other books in the genre that go a bit deeper, try Earth Abides, Lucifer’s Hammer, or A Canticle for Leibowitz)

I’ve been slowly reading Necroscope and enjoying it but projects with quickly approaching deadlines have been interrupting my progress.

And lastly, I’m still working my way through The Sandman series. Great series but for some reason I can only read a page at a time before going onto something else. Maybe it’s because the books are a bit expensive so that’s my way of getting my money worth.

And you?

Daily Dose of Ingersoll

Intelligence is the only light. It enables us to keep to the
highway, to avoid the obstructions, and to take advantage of the
forces of nature. It is the only lever capable of raising mankind.
To develop the brain is to civilize the world. Intelligence reeves
the heavens of winged and frightful monsters — drives ghosts and
leering fiends from the darkness, and floods with light the
dungeons of fear.
