What restaurant do you love for the ambience?
The Mai Kai in Fort Lauderdale, FL has to be my favorite above all others. First of all, it’s tiki themed which gives it the kitsch factor that I love. It’s dark inside almost to the point that you need a flashlight to read the menu. It’s lit only by a few lanterns and when the person at the table next to you orders a rum soaked dessert that is set ablaze. The decor consists of various tiki heads, hawaiian paintings and thatch making it a tiki-themed heaven (or hell if you hate polynesian themed restaurants). As a bonus they have a kick ass polynesian themed show and the food is pretty damn good albeit a bit on the pricey side.
And as a bonus, the outdoor gardens are spectacular, especially at night when they’re lit up by torches. And if I’m not mistaken, they do have outside seating in the gardens.
I also love the ambience in The Peppermill on the Strip in Vegas. A weird mix of patrons including locals, big wigs, and tourists all go to The Peppermill. The inside is neon and fake trees which gives an old time Vegas feel at a time when those places are almost all gone.
