You Can’t Please Everyone – Are You Experienced

One star Amazon reviews of classic movies, music and literature. Today we take a look at Are You Experienced:

Words cannot describe my intense dislike for Jimi’s guitar “skills”. This guy is a HACK. All songs sound exactly the same, the drummer is weak, does the bassist even exist? Listen to some REAL music that actually requires talent- like Nickelback!

Are you kidding me. Did Avril Lavigne ever use distortion in her songs? Or how about those wierd sound effect things? Mmhhm, that’s whqat I thought. Keeping that in mind, how could anyone in their right mind say that this Hendrix guy is good. You lozerz obviously now nothing about muzik. Some idiots are calling him the best guitar player ever….? HELLO??? That’s like saying MTV doesn’t play good muzik!!! If you want good guitar, try Avril Lavigne, or, the masters of Metal, Limp Bizkit.

I bought this disc based on all the reviews claiming it’s the greatest guitar album ever. I was very dissapointed, most of the solos suck. Plus, I was surprised that MTV didnt play any videos from this album, I wonder why? Probebly cause the MTV crowd know this music is tired and boring. If you want great guitar listen to Good Charlotte.

I first picked this album up because I heard Hendrix played some heavy, rockin music. But all this album is is a bunch of blues tunes that go nowhere. His solos are just a bunch of noise and his sound is dated, unlike good bands like Great White and Skid Row. Not recommended for fans of good heavy metal.

Jimi Hendrix has to be the most over rated guitarist ever! Not only does his songs make no sense, but he can’t solo to save his life! I’m sick and tired of these retro wannabes saying how fabulous he is!

For good guitaring check out Limp Bizkit, Nickelback, Disturbed, Korn, Kid Rock, Staind, Creed, and Metallica’s St Anger Album.

Oh, and Lenny Kravitz is GOD compared to this rip off!

Time Waits for no one, and this album is the proof why. Pruple Haze Indeed contains probebly the greatest Guitar riff ever recorded but the rest of the album not very much. Buy something from the Rolling Stones.

There’s no denying the effect Jimi Hendrix’s debut had on rock music in the late sixties, it’s also generally considered one of the great rock albums of all time, always making in the list of top 10 or 15 of all time. If this album came out today, it would just be another rock album. Nothing more. Nothing less. Jimi Hendrix himself remains the most overrated artist in rock history, an artist with simple songwriting talent. Yeah yeah talk about his guitar playing, he wasn’t actually a great guitar player but he was considered important because he made the guitar sound wierd with fuz and wah wah noise. Eric Clapton, Jimmi Paige, Chuck Berry, Keith Richard, Pete Townshead were all better guitarists, because they actually created solos with melody, not just some noise thrown together with no melodic sense. There are many things in like which are overhyped and Jimi Hendrix is one of them. Dont beleive the hype, listen to the album if you want but don’t pretend you’re hearing something revolutionary because nowadays, it’s just another rock album. Period.

This album is garbage. How can this NOISE be considered “music”?? Do not waste your money on this junk.

I dont know what everyone is talking about here, I find nothing special in this music.

Way Overrated.

This guy is supposed to be the greatest guitarist of all time? Jimmy Page could play one of this guy’s solos with his eyes closed. Hey Joe is the only decent song on this album. This guy is way overatted just because he died young. Jimmy Page is the greatest guitarist of all time, and if you want to argue that, compare the two, go for it! This is horrible. He sounds stoned. Listen to Led Zeppelin or something if you want to hear good classic rock.

Since mostly everyone considers Jimi Hendrix the best guitarist of all time, I would have to go against the grain and proclaim him as the perhaps the worst guitarist that ever lived. His playing was sloppy and he only created sounds, his solos were boring and easy to play. My friend does play guitar very well and he can play every solo on this CD easiely. Jimi Hendrix was never the master of guitar solos, he basically created crazy and wierd sounds out of guitar and made people wonder how he got those sounds.

If you’re looking for great guitar-based albums buy Led Zeppelin II, Back in Black, or Sticky Fingers and skip Jimi hendrix. There’s no good music here. He’s boring, talentless and he whines. 1-star.

  1. Chris, I think you’ve been Amazon-hacked. Each review seems to be from the same person. My guess is the Limp Bizkit sound guy.

  2. Yeah, let’s compare Hendrix to Avril Levine. Hendrix was a ripoff and a hack? If these boneheads would read the liner notes and see that this album came out four decades ago they’d realize he reinvented the electric guitar.

  3. A little piece of my soul died on learning that there are people capable of comparing Hendrix to Avril Lavigne, the lyricist who bought us lines such as.

“Hey you i don’t like your girlfriend.
    She’s like yeah, so whatever”

Most of the reviews though are almost certainly taking the piss, i mean people don’t really talk about Nickelback, Limp Bizkit and Jimmy Hendrix in the same sentence do they?

  4. Almost looks like there was a contest with this one to see who could come up with the most ridiculous 1-star review.

And ‘Pruple Haze’? Can I get that to go with my Pruple Rain?

  5. i find it amusing that people who shit all over hendrix list their favorite groups and their favorite groups are people i wouldnt piss on if they were burning alive.

seriously if i saw avril lavine burning alive i would run to the nearest store for a bag of marshmallows.

  6. ewww.. are these people insane? How is it possible to be so distorted my mainstream media that you have no idea what is great music… and what is absolute crap!? Ironic.

  7. Great bands like Nickelback, Great White, Skid Roq, Kid Rock, Limp Bizkit, Disturbed, Korn, Staind, Creed, and Metallica?! ROTFLMAO.

  8. Hendrix was an incredibly talented guitarist, but less so a songwriter. I’m agreeing with whichever commenter said that a lot of them sound the same.

Impressive skillz, but not really particularly engaging to listen to, for me.

  9. I think back to the mid sixties when I was twelve years old and thought my dads music from the thirties and forties sucked. I did not appreciate how good that music was till I hit my forties.
I believe most all musicians who get their music published and have a following have some great talent within their style of music. Tearing down one to build up another is what really sucks.
I know if you asked Lenny Kravitz about Hendrix you would hear a glowing review.

  10. Some of these, especially the first couple HAVE to be ironic. A lot of these alternative suggestions are just self-consciously bad. I mean Nickleback and Good Charlotte have to be two worst bands of the last 25 years right? Maybe 50?

These people have to be kidding. Otherwise kill me now.

  11. I’m still dying from the “Lenny Kravitz is a GOD” comment. Funniest thing I’ve heard all week!….Hmm, though it’s only Tuesday…

  12. When it comes to music, I’ve found a good rule-of-thumb is to instantly dismiss any negative opinions that suggest an alternative. It’s 99.9% guaranteed to be personal preference from a person who doesn’t understand that their is such a thing as personal preference.

@GEOFF LEPPARD: Either your handle is an incredible coincidence, or you’ve misunderstood and should be over at Amazon…

(I jest, I jest, I thought much the same about Hendrix until fairly recently – I just cringe at the very mention of you-know-who and couldn’t resist 🙂 )

  13. Dagnammit! that should be ‘there’ as in ‘there is…’, not ‘their’ as in ‘their preference…’. I blame the two other conversations I’m trying to avoid 😉

  14. @debbe:

There are plenty of people under the age of 25 with good taste in music and knowledge of music history, and plenty of older folks with appalling taste. These reviewers are just idiots, not necessarily YOUNG idiots.

  15. Ok, I give up. These reviews have to be jokes. They HAVE TO BE. seriously. I’m not kidding around. They just can’t be serious.

…I mean, Avril Lavigne? I might just have to listen to Bluto:

Bluto: [thrusting six-pack into Flounder’s hands] My advice to you is to start drinking heavily.
Otter: Better listen to him, Flounder, he’s in pre-med.

  16. As other people have pointed out, the bands they refer to as “superior” make it seem like these people are trolls. I hope they’re trolls.

  17. If any of these reviews are actually real and not just sad, sad parodies, I don’t think life is worth living anymore.

  18. LOL @ Nickelback. The band that takes 99% of the same exact background music, puts new lyrics on it, and then releases it as another single? And MTV only plays music at 2am, after they’ve run every single rerun of their lame reality shows.

  19. I love how they all think this is “new” music. This is from the 60’s and they probably don’t even know that Hendrix was never given lessons. He did everything on his own and suceeded greatly at it. It’s a shame that they’re comparing him to crap bands like Avril L. and Nickelback, and maybe the worst: Mettallica’s “St. Anger” album. Hendrix had more talent in his little toe than any of the above-mentioned bands/peole. Ok, so maybe he’s not the best, but he revolutionized music in such an amazing way. Oh, and people saying that he sounds stoned: it’s the damn 60’s! Of course he’s gonna sound stoned! Everyone was doin weed and acid back then. It was very common. Learn about a musician and use your ears to appreciate their music.

  20. Limp bizkit the masters of metal. That is quote worthy materiaelllll…..

    WTF UG!?!??? (amidooingitrite?)

  21. I’m obviously missing something with the WTFness… but I digress.
I don’t know why, but I think the funniest thing is the kid who wonders why Hendrix never got any MTV airplay. that has to be a joke.

@curious.. you must live in my area. I drive by Jimi all the time. if you drive by at night, sometimes you can see the flickering candlelight of teenages smoking up on his grave. amusing.

I can’t believe one of these idiots actually wrote “If you want to hear good guitar, listen to Good Charlotte”

On a review for Hendrix, one of the greatest guitarists EVER.

I died inside when i saw some of these things. I didn’t know that people could actually be this stupid. Then again, you know what they say, “the average person’s an idiot, and to be average, that means that 50% are stupider than them.”

Obviously these reviewers were from that 50%.

Btw, I think the one that mentions Metallica’s st. anger was actually a joke. They referred to a few bands, then just one album. Either that, or they actually think that Metallica’s worst album is their only good one.
