M. Night Shyamalan has two movies in this list so you know it’s accurate.
In honor of the Thanksgiving holiday that nears, it seemed only fitting that our minds turned to those films for which we are most unexpectedly grateful, those flops and duds, those bombs and turkeys rife with unintentional humor and renewed entertainment values. Now, we’ve pretty much stuck with the past decade or so with our picks; anything before that has either been done right by MST3K or is probably titled Showgirls.
With that said, please enjoy this Cinematical Seven responsibly, and do feel free to contribute your own personal favorite howlers of late in the comments below…

Dreamcatcher had a reasonable plot. It also had a novel set of scenes where the protagonist / antagonist’s mind was shown as a giant library being taken over by the alien intruder.
Transformers on the other hand was a horrible movie. It’s the world’s longest car ad. The lead actors were awful. Some actual decent actors (who should have known better) were in supporting roles, but they were only as good as the bad script they were working from. The inevitable bullshit CGI ending was as bad as usual. The movie was aimed at kids and teens, but that doesn’t get it off the hook for sucking.

There are so many like:
Windchill – an incredibly feat in having nothing really happen
What Happens in Vegas – needs no explanation
Stomp the Yard – ditto
Step up I & II – bloody hell!!!
Stick It – did Jeff Bridges lose a bet?
the entire American Pie franchise…

I agree about Transformers. That movie was not only bad, it was reprehensibly bad. The scene when the one robot literally takes a piss on a character was when I turned the DVD off and said “FUCK YOU MICHAEL BAY!” as loudly as I could.

Can anyone pinpoint the time in our 20th century history when Quantity over Quality became the catch cry of Hollywood?
I could ironically say I’ve moved out of the demograph for being a movie buff, but I just feel old when I contemplate I’ve gone to a movie theatre only 3 times this year. There was a time when I went to the movies every single week – sometimes twice a week.
I’m only 34.

Amanda, quantity over quality has been at the centre of Hollywood for decades – more or less since its inception, really. Just look at the acres of shit churned out for drive-ins and late-night double-features, the kingdom ruled by
the great Ed WoodRoger Corman (sorry Ed).Like or Dislike:

Oh, and while we’re adding nominations: how can any list like this not include the soul-searingly abysmal Hostel*? I can only account for its exclusion by assuming that no one at cinematical.com actually saw it…
*Yes, Jimbo, Saw was pretty bad. But it was Oscar-worthy compared to Hostel.

Both the first “American Pie” and “Almost Famous” are classics – how dare you guys. But the Number 23 was truly awful, as well as that “Smart People” movie that came out last year.

Amanda- same thing here.
And I’m only 24. If I have kids, they’ll probably give up on new movies at 14. Not that that’s a bad thing…
