Sound Waves With Fire

The classic physics experiment involving sound, a tube of propane and fire. Created for Flash Forward 2006, but useful in any case where you are not allowed to have fire. I push through the tube 449 Hz then higher frequencies, then some jazz and then some rock. This is real life sound visualization.

Friday Guest Cat Blogging

Kristen sends in a picture of her cat for FGCB:

Here is Cootie. She is an avid fan. Okay. Not really. Mostly she walks away or licks her ass.

And how is that different than the rest of my fans?

Thanks Kristen!

Little Diomede Island (Big Diomede, which is part of Russia, is in the background)

Look, you CAN see Russia from an island that’s part of Alaska. From this vantage point I can see Russia’s 58th Army moving into South Ossetia!

Update:
Oops, it wasn’t Russia’s 58th Army but just a caribou. SHOOT IT!)

Daily Dose of Ingersoll

RobertGIngersoll.jpg

Now the intelligent men of the world have cast aside the
teachings, the philosophy of the ascetics. They no longer believe
in the virtue of fasting and self-torture. They believe that
happiness is the only good, and that the time to be happy is now –
here, in this world. They no longer believe in the rewards and punishments of the supernatural. They believe in consequences, and
that the consequences of bad actions are evil, and the consequences
of good actions are good.

Robert Green Ingersoll – “Which Way” (1884)

McCain Gets Grilled by Maine Reporter about Palin

Q: Well, you say you’re sure that she has the experience, but again, I’m just asking for an example. What experience does she have in the field of national security?

McCAIN: Energy. She knows more about energy than probably anyone else in the United States of America… And we all know that energy is a critical and vital national security issue.

Newspaper Uses Twitter to Microblog 3 Year Old’s Funeral

From The Colorado Independent .

I’m just trying to envision the exchange between the reporter and his editors over at the Rocky Mountain News that led to their decision to live blog the funeral today of Marten Kudlis, the 3-year old boy killed at an ice cream store last week. And you know what? Whatever their rationale, it’s unconceivable. Utterly, and unforgivingly, unconceivable.
