This must’ve made Fark or Digg or someplace big today. Half the comments are from 2006,and the other half are from August 28th, 2008. But they all pretty much say the same thing!

I would be embarrassed to get this excited over a GOOD restaurant! Unless I owned it myself, of course.

Olive Garden really might be the most overrated restaurant in the world. I’ve been there twice, and each time, it’s been merely “okay.”

Although the second time was hysterical because of the schmuck sitting behind me on a first date with a girl, and he came across like a complete ass (example: He: “What size are you?” She: “What?” He, in audible undertone: “Your boobies?”)

I live near there in a even lesser city, Okoboji. Sioux City is a joke. Sadly I was born in Sioux Falls, SD which is a bigger less pathetic city. Basically the Midwest names everything after some sort of water or Indian tribe. Hence my home town of Okoboji. I was just out trying to buy cigars after 11. You just can’t do it. Everything shuts down at 9. So sad.

Sioux City opened an OG last year on the north side of town last year around this time. I was in town on business the evening it opened up; you would have thought it was the second coming of JC it was so packed. I asked someone what the big deal was, and the guy said this was the first “fine dining” restaurant Sioux City ever had. If anyone has ever been to Sioux City before you can relate…it’s one of those types of “cities”. But of course, the airport code is “SUX”, that explains it all right there…

Some friends of mine lived in Iowa for about a year. They told me about a review in the local paper of a newly-opened Middle Eastern restaurant that raved about a certain exotic cuisine served there. That exotic cuisine was hummus.

I didn’t make it past the 10th paragraph. It was just too sad.

…”general manager Jason Hagarty, 31, an Omaha native and bachelor with eight years of Olive Garden experience, most recently as general manager in Dubuque.”
“Olive Garden honored Hagarty by setting his name in stone. Travertine marble imported from Tuscany was chiseled with Hagarty’s name and placed prominently by the front door.”…”During the past week, the Air Force vet whipped his staff into shape, but without the whips, salutes or any military-style discipline.”
yet….
“One new employee when asked where Mr. Hagarty was, wasn’t sure who Mr. Hagerty was until she was told his first name. “Oh, Jason! Sure, just a minute.”
AND…
… “The restaurant is just east of Gunderson’s Jewelers”.

I think the entire thing is a very elaborate ad for Gunderson’s Jewelers and a dating ad for the general manager. Plentyoffish didn’t work out so well, so he’s going for a demographic that he KNOWS will appreciate his skills.

What really lost me, though, was when it cheerfully announced that because it’s a giant chain restaurant, it is EXACTLY the same as the Olive Gardens everywhere else.
I get the appeal of massive chains like Starbucks, but if you haven’t become accustomed to it from growing up with it, why would you be so rampant to get it?? (PS: for any Sioux City readers, Olive Garden just isn’t that great. It’s not.)
