New Comment Feature

Ok, I’ve added some shiny new buttons to the comment form so let’s see how it works. There’s a slight chance (76.2%) that I might have broken something so if you see anything going wrong, feel free to comment. Unless you can’t. Then we’re screwed.

Ok, the text rich comments didn’t work out that well. I’m too tired to monkey around with it so I’ve disabled the text rich stuff but below the comments you now have a live comment preview to play with. That should work. (I really wish I didn’t say that)

Ralph McQuarrie Concept Paintings for BSG (1978)

Next to doing concept sketches for the designs of the ships and aliens on Battlestar Galactica 1978, Ralph McQuarrie was also asked to paint 24 color images to be used on the first script of the pilot “Saga of a Star World”. This script (of which only 50 were printed) was written to convince the studios to pick up this costly project and the illustrations helped to explain and visualize the story.

Of Men and Monsters

The other day I posted a link to the Top 10 Obscure But Superb Science Fiction Novels I skimmed the list and found Of Men and Monsters on Amazon and it finally came in today. I’m about halfway though (it’s only about 220 pages) and so far I’m really impressed.

It takes place in the future where the Earth has been invaded by giant aliens who have destroyed most of humanity. People now live in the walls of the aliens homes like mice divided into different groups and tribes where two types of religions have branched out; one that is devoted to technology from the past and the other that is trying to learn and decipher the aliens’ technology.

The novel has taken some non-expected turns and it looks like I’m going to go back and order some more books off the list. Has anybody else read Of Men and Monsters?

Finished it. Good book with a solid ending. Next on the list is Lest Darkness Fall until I get anything else from that list.
