Jonathan Wild

From Wikipedia:

Jonathan Wild (baptised 6 May 1683 – 24 May 1725) was perhaps the most famous criminal of London — and possibly Great Britain — during the 18th century, both because of his own actions and the uses novelists, playwrights, and political satirists made of them. He invented a scheme which allowed him to run one of the most successful gangs of thieves of the era, all the while appearing to be the nation’s leading policeman. He manipulated the press and the nation’s fears to become the most loved public figure of the 1720s; this love turned to hatred when his villainy was exposed. After his death, he became a symbol of corruption and hypocrisy.

Neil Gaiman Childrens Q & A

From Bloomsbury.com:

What’s the best thing you’ve ever written?

Possibly a book called Mr Punch. Probably Coraline. If you do it by counting awards and award nominations, it’s probably American Gods.

What’s the last piece of your writing that you hated and threw in the wastepaper bin and why?

It’s not something I do very often — mostly because I do my rough drafts in nice notebooks or computers, and even if I don’t use something, I’d never throw it away.

Is there any particular ritual involved in your writing process (favourite pen, lucky charm, south facing window)?

I like writing with fountain pens, in interesting coloured inks, but really and truly I can write on more or less anything, more or less anywhere, if I get interested.

Daily Dose of Ingersoll

RobertGIngersoll.jpg

If there be an infinite Being, he does not need our help — we need not waste our energies in his defence. It is enough for us to give to every other human being the liberty we claim for ourselves. There may or may not be a Supreme Ruler of the universe — but we are certain that man exists, and we believe that freedom is the condition of progress; that it is the sunshine of the mental and moral world, and that without it man will go back to the den of savagery, and will become the fit associate of wild and ferocious beasts.
