Mon, 23 Jul 2007 18:57:20 +0000 http://www.cynical-c.com/?p=7925#comment-136717 i think the popularity of jesus partly came about due to the fact he was humanized. unlike most previous sun gods, who were supernatural beings that stood above the heavens and looked down upon us, jesus was given a mortal body and in doing so, gave the people the ability to relate to him on an emotional level.

along with jesus, all the demigods of this and that became saints. if you wish to pray for a good days hunt, you pray to saint hubertus, patron saint of hunters. same thing people did thousands of years ago.

It’s interesting that certain bits of information in the new testament is considered Sacred by scores of Christians (like the Eucharist, the Christmas story, the Grail, etc), but other items, like his clothing, and the fact that he camped out by choice, and his carpentry skills, are NOT sacred.

The things that are considered sacred by Christians happen to be the sacred symbols of earlier “heathen” religions, as opposed to all the details that have nothing to do with earlier religion, and those just happen to have no Christian importance, either. It follows perfectly.

This is the stuff that killed the last of my Christianity, so many years ago. I saw that if I didn’t believe in ancient Sun Gods, I didn’t really believe in Jesus, either.
