1. Because if you’re invading a foreign country, parachuting into its approximate geographic center is always the best military strategy.

  2. Have to admit, it’s one of my favorites. It even has a gratuitous anti-gun-control message. 🙂

    My favorite scene is when the Cuban commander is being frustrated by the teenage guerillas, and complains to his Russian commander, “Usually WE are the partisans.” Love it.

  3. Bittersweet ending. Most of the characters are dead, by the end. Just like life. It’s one of the things I really love about that movie.

  4. I wonder how many Americans have died from gunfire over the years under the guise of needing guns to protect themselves from foreign invaders…

  5. I don’t know anyone who owns guns for the purpose of repelling foriegn invaders. People have guns for other reasons, that’s just a side benefit. As was illustrated in the movie. They were using hunting weapons and IEDs, until they could get military weapons from the dead invaders.
