Exorcisms Become Big Business in Arizona

From ReligionNewsBlog:

What once was a very private practice in the Catholic Church has apparently become big business for others.

An estimated 600 non-Catholic groups are now performing exorcisms, allegedly ridding people of their demons.

“It’s happening. It’s a phenomenon. Why? Pick up the paper — crime, drugs, violence … horrendous sexual abuse,” said Bob Larson, who has made a national name for himself. “This is all the work of the devil.”

There is also a video on YouTube of a Good Morning America report on Larson:

  1. God is going to kick their asses.

(Matthew 10:8) Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.

If they have such an ability to cast out demons, they were given the gift freely by God. He says to cast those demons out freely. If they are charging folks to cast demons out, I wouldn’t want to be standing anywhere near them when God decides to smite their asses.

  2. from the article: “Jesus said the eyes are the mirror of the soul. When you look at somebody’s eyes you are really connecting soul to soul with that person.”

Umm. No he didn’t. Unless Larson is referring to some ‘other’ Jesus…. like the one who posts directives to this page.

  3. $120!?!? I’m in the wrong line of work.

What sad, inconsequential and lonely lives these people must lead that they need this type of attention and validation. Disgusting.

  4. I wonder if he could have helped Pastor Ted Haggard or former Rep. Mark Foley if they had only saught his help.

If this looks rediculous, remember, it’s just as commonly referred to in the bible as any of the mainstream “miracles” that God and Jesus were supposed to have performed. This is belief in the scriptures taken to its legitimate and literal conclusion. If it looks rediculous and phoney, think of all the times that the zealots talk about God ‘entering their lives’ or being ‘filled with the holy spirit’ or ‘feeling Jesus enter their soul’. It’s just the flip side of the same bronze-age superstitious mumbo jumbo that all Judeo-Christian religions are built on. If you believe that the spirit of the lord can enter you than certainly deamons can do the same thing and be cast out by rituals. Remember, there is no such thing as the ‘gospel of Satan’, he’s drawn from the same book that christianity is. In fact, you could argue that Satanism is technically an offshoot of Judeo-Christianity. They’re all working off the same sheet of music!

  5. The old story, never argue religion/politics.As long as people feel good about either as their own choice then nothing short of an exorcism/cleansing of their money will ‘change’ them.Benny Hinn makes this guy look like a novice.
