Shutup Tim McCarver

tim-mccarver-banner-2005-pl.gif

Tim McCarver may be a horrible announcer but he is a 95 on the Unintentional Comedy Scale. Check out the Tim McCarver quotes section on this site to see what I mean.

Paraphrasing from the ALCS re: Curt Schilling’s sock:
“The blood on his sock looks exactly like Oklahoma!”

“The reason we call that pitch up and in is because the arms are attached to the shoulder.”

During a meeting at the mound between the pitcher and catcher, “You see Colon talking into his glove because David Ortiz, from the Dominican Republic, can obviously read lips in Spanish.”

“Half of the Yankees’ regulars this year have not been regulars.”

“One thing about ground balls. They don’t go out of the ball park.”

Legless Football Player Sidelined Over Knee Pad, Shoe Rule

5010331_400X300.jpg

Some nitwit official made a big deal about this kid playing football because he wasn’t wearing pads to protect appendages that he didn’t have? Common sense is a rare commodity.

A legless teen in Ohio who was told he cannot play during a game in Cincinnati because of a rule requiring players to wear shoes and knee pads will be allowed to play in future games, according to a Local 6 News report.

Bobby Martin was told at halftime of a recent game at Mount Healthy High School in Cincinnati that he could not finish the game because of the shoes and knee pads rule.

An Anatomy of Megachurches

slide1_GrandOpeningWide_.jpg

Slate has an interesting slideshow of Megachurches. They look like great places for concerts once the Rapture happens and takes the annoying Jesus freaks away.

“Megachurch”—like “McMansion” or “big-box store”—is a disdainful put-down. And like many put-downs it is not particularly accurate; very large churches have been around for a long time. Think Hagia Sophia, the Gothic cathedrals, or that Vatican megabasilica, St. Peter’s, which accommodates 60,000 worshipers. (The largest church in the world is an overscaled replica of St. Peter’s in Côte d’Ivoire, of all places.) What distinguishes the current crop of megachurches is not so much their size—none rivals St. Peter’s—but their different sense of architectural style. The 16,000-seat sanctuary of Lakewood Church in Houston (above), the nation’s largest nondenominational congregation, has padded theater seats instead of wooden pews, a stage instead of an altar, and video projection screens instead of stained-glass windows. Hardly a classic place of worship, although the expansive expression of religious community in this vast space is as impressive, in its way, as any soaring medieval nave.

Faith Chips

FCPC100.jpg

A new spin on the traditional pocket coin – Faith Chips are not just designed to carry around as a personal reminder – but rather as an ultra cool mini tract to hand out. Because poker is so popular right now, the design of the chip creates a curiosity about the message.

Project Manager Leaves Suicide PowerPoint Presentation

Another gem from The Onion.

In the presentation’s first section, a three-dimensional bar graph illustrated the growth of Butler’s sorrow during the two years since his wife and only child died in a car accident.

“We all got Ron’s message loud and clear when that JPEG of his wife wipe-transitioned to a photo of her tombstone,” coworker Anne Thibideux said.

The first section closed with a review of key objectives and critical success factors. The two-column text display was enlivened by colorful background wallpaper and clip-art question marks depicting Ron’s confusion over his choice.
