Squint Eyes: Artist and Indian Scout

21203312.jpg

Pictorial art is an old tradition among the Indians of the Plains. Long ago men painted pictures of their triumphs on buffalo robes and hide shirts. Once non-native trade materials became available in the 19th century, many drawings were done on paper, often in bound books such as account ledgers or ruled notebooks. One of the best known groups of Plains artists was among the men held prisoner at Fort Marion in Saint Augustine, Florida, from 1875-1878. Working far away from home, they developed a distinctive style quite different than that of the many artists who remained in their home communities. Squint Eyes (Tichkematse), a Cheyenne, was one of these prisoner artists.

The 50 Worst Hairstyles of All Time

I can’t find too many complaints about this list.

Link Exchanges

I get a lot of spam every week asking me to exchange links with everything from online casino sites to penis enlargement sites (Yeah, that’s a link I want on my website). Lately I have started to get emails from bloggers asking to exchange links with them. This is becoming a pet peeve of mine when “legitimate” blogs start acting like spammers. All the links that you see on my blogroll are there because they are my favorite blogs to go to, not because I have some arrangement where they will link to me if I link to them. A blogroll should be a reflection of your interests, not some tawdry arrangement to try to get me more hits.

Boing Boing on the Star Wars Ep III Workprint on the Net

Amen!

There’s a workprint of Star Wars Episode III on the Internet already. It’s got some timecode and watermarks, but judging from the 19 second XVID sample that Waxy has posted, it seems like it’s eminently watchable.

Workprints leak from studios. The studios are trying to lock down what customers do with DVDs and cable TV and PCs, but they can’t even keep their own house in order. They’ve got laws that allow them to get your name from your ISP and to sue you into bankruptcy for file-sharing. They’ve got laws to criminalize the math to defeat DRM. They’re after laws to let them design TVs and camcorders.
