What Sci-Fi Character are you

Quick quiz that will decide what character from Sci-Fi you are like.

Mine was Marcus Cole from Babylon 5. I have never seen the show but that really is my last name. Odd.

A Christmas Story

You know the movie A Christmas Story that is played 24 hours straight on TNT every Christmas? Remember the character Flick? He was the one who got his tongue stuck to the frozen flagpole. Ever wonder what he did after that movie? Porn!!

Probabilities in the Game of Monopoly

An in-depth analysis for Monopoly. Anytime there is c code and a board game analysis you can be damned sure I will link to it!!

I first wrote a C program that simulates a single person rolling the dice and moving around the board a great number of times. It included all of the rules for going to jail and the Chance and Community Chest cards. Although this gave good aproximate answers, I decided that I wanted to write another program that would find the exact probabilities using a Markov matrix, which was the method described in a simplified form in the Scientific American article. I used an extended version of this program to generate this web page.

I have heard of online courses before but..

The University of Washington has an interesting course in its catalog.
COM 480 Ethnography of on-line role-playing games.

Course Requirements
In lieu of a textbook, you are expected to purchase a copy of the Everquest Trilogy software (approximately $20 retail). You must also commit to a three-month subscription at the rate of $12.95 per month. Since the first month is free, the total expenditure for computer supplies is approximately $46.

Assignments and Grading
There will be two in-class exams, one on May 5 and one on June 4. These exams test material covered in readings and class discussions. They will constitute half of your overall grade in the course.

When conducting fieldwork, anthropologists typically maintain a journal of observations, insights, and evolving research questions. In this course, your field notes will take the form of a regularly updated “web log.” No prior technical knowledge is required to create this on-line research journal. The web log will constitute 20% of your overall grade in the course. A more detailed description of this assignment will be handed out during the first week of class.

Now that is homework I can get into!!

Name that Candybar

They give you a cross section of a candy bar and you have to guess what it is.

Wacky Uses

This website shows you other uses for household products. For example:

Canada Dry Club Soda

Clean diamonds, rubies, sapphires, and emeralds.
Simply soak the gems in Canada Dry Club Soda.

Make fluffy pancakes, waffles, and matzah balls.
Substitute Canada Dry Club Soda for the liquid used in the recipes.

Make a poor man’s lava lamp.
Fill a glass with Canada Dry Club soda and drop in two raisins. The carbonation will cause the raisins to repeatedly bob to the surface and the sink again.

I feel like MacGyver!

Jesus Dress Up

I am not sure if treating Jesus like a paper doll is a mortal or venial sin but this website was pretty fun.
